Emil’s French Holiday
G'day folks, I've been away from the bench for about 6 months so I thought I'd knock up something simple to get my eye back in.
This is the Tamiya bf109 E-3 in 1/48. It represents an aircraft from JG 3 during the Battle of France. This scheme is actually supposed to be on an E-4 but we'll keep that between us. I chose this one because my daughter's name is Grace. I told her I was building it in her honour. She replied, with typical teenage sarcasm, that having a Nazi death machine built for her wasn't the honour I thought it was. I told her she was probably right…but here it is anyway!
I have always liked the earlier 109s in this simplified scheme. Harkening back to their halcyon days, before the Battle of Britain dented their reputation somewhat.
The model is not my best work. There are quite a few rookie errors. Despite my best efforts I was again defeated by dust in the paint work, a problem which seems to plague me. I try to keep a nice clean work area but it just seems to materialise as soon as I break out the airbrush. Oh well, on to the next one.
Also, today is Anzac Day here in Australia (and New Zealand)
LEST WE FORGET
Thanks for checking it out.
Excellent Emil and excellent honour to your daughter, Ben!
Thanks Spiros!
G’day Ben (@popeofchillitown),
Great build.
That’s todays teenagers for you 😂.
Liked!
G’day Michael, cheers mate!
Very nice build, Ben (@popeofchillitown). I also like the early paint scheme on 109s. Dust is a problem everywhere, but I don't see anything on the model to worry about. Yes, lest we forget. Well done.
Thank you George.
Nice work. Still my favorite 109 kit.
Cheers John. Those “two sprue wonder” kits that Tamiya produced in the 90s still hold up very well don’t they? They are the perfect balance between being detailed enough and simple to build. Something many manufacturers have lost sight of these days.
I too dig those early paint schemes. Thanks for sharing.
Rod
Thanks for looking, Rod.
The overall finish looks really smooth. Great build.
Thank you John.
Really nice
Cheers mate!
Excellent build! I do like that simple scheme - not any mottling and no yellow nose or anything else - just the simple lines of the Emil, which is my favorite version of the 109.
G’day Greg, thanks mate. Yep, I reckon the Emil is the pick of the bunch too.
Very nice build, Ben! I'm sure it looks great setting on the shelf, ready for admiration! I like your subdued panel lines, something often over-wrought.
Too kind, Mike. Thank you. Most of my builds look good in the cabinet, as long as you don’t get too close!😂
And that's ok!
Great build and your daughter has a great sense of humor, Ben!
Thanks Felix. She certainly does.
A great honour to your daughter, Ben @popeofchillitown
This Emil turned out beautifully. No dust visible from this side. I agree with you that those early schemes do look great.
Thank you John
Greetings from the Gold Coast, Ben. Great 109. Nice and clean and a perfect paint job!
@yellow10
G’day Paul, thanks for checking it out. I’m out bush in the mountains near Braidwood NSW.
