Airfix Vickers Wellington Mk. 1a 1/72
I finally got around to finish this kit. It is my first contribution to the Phoney War Group Build. At this point i would really like to thank everyone who is participating, i am really glad the topic inspires fellow modellers. Personally i like british planes from the mid to late 1930ies, their sometimes design as well as the camouflage and schemes applied. The Wellington to me is one of those planes that look somehow both awkward and beautiful.
This kit depicts a Wellington that took part in the infamous attack in the Heligoland Bight in December of 1939. Even though the British suffered severe losses that day, some might argue that because of the outcome it actually hurt the Germans later on as the outcome made them overconfident in regards to fighting heavy bombers.
This kit is a reboxing from a 2018 tooling. Fantastic kit with great amount of details, perfect fit. The clear parts are super clear! Of course i did mess up one decal, something i always do. Since i did not do any preshading due to the structure of the fuselage, the camouflage looked a bit too immaculate to me. So i tried to add variation to dark green by adding some white oil. Not sure if that worked!
Initially, i wanted to build this plane with wheels up, as i think the box art looks very nice.
Anyway, painted with AK acrylics, weathered with some oil colors.
Thanks for looking!
Well done, Felix. It was a great project to kick off the Group build and fun to watch come together. Can't wait to see what's next.
