Avro Shackleton AEW.2 1/72 Revell. Mr. Rusty.
The Avro Shackleton is undoubtedly an iconic aircraft of the post-war period. It originated from its no less famous predecessor, the Avro Lancaster. In 1971, 12 Avro Shackleton MR.2 aircraft were converted to the AEW.2, or airborne early warning version. These aircraft entered service in 1972 and were assigned to No. 8 Squadron RAF, where they served until July 1991. During its long service, it survived the unsuccessful design of its successor, the Hawker Nimrod aircraft. The Avro Shackleton AEW.2 aircraft had the best version of the Rolls Royce Griffon piston engine with contra-rotating propellers, which basically became the symbol of this aircraft. The aircraft was reliable, dependable, liked by its crews and permanently inscribed itself in the history of British and world aviation. I invite you to watch a short film about the construction of the model and the history of the original. The Revell model surprised me very positively. Good fit of parts, rivets all over the airframe, interior details, open flaps, movable ailerons and other details. To make the model more attractive, I equipped the cockpit with a crew from PJ Production and a set of photo-etched details. The weakest element of the model were its wheels. Somehow not very nicely cast and a bit clumsy. A resin set from Eduard came to the rescue, which looks practically perfect. I preceded painting the fuselage with a rather complicated pre-shading. As a final paint I used Mr Color C331, and at the end an oil wash Grey-brown. Once again, I invite you to familiarize yourself with the photos and the slide show.
