Battle of Britain Bf-109E

May 6, 2025 · in Aviation · · 22 · 333

A few days ago I realized that I had never made a 109 with the infamous red strip on the nose (if you don't know the story, you can easily find it on the net) so here comes another kit for the bench 🙂
The build was straightforward, it's a very easy kit, and most of the work is hidden inside the cockpit. But I know it's there 😀
Here are the pictures, I hope you like them

  1. Very nice work on your Emil, and great weathering too.
Interesting info on the red banding of which I did not know, thanks Manuel.

  2. This looks great. The finish is very authentic- looks like an actual photo of a plane.
I too did not know this red stripe story - very interesting

  3. Another beautiful 109 - well done!

  4. This is another wonderful build, Manuel @magrus
An unknown historical part to me as well, very interesting.

  5. Nice work, Manuel (@magrus). I have been noticing the red stripe on the nose. I have read some authors who said it was a unit marking or decoration. But others say that the squadron was ordered to cover their unit symbol on the nose with a red stripe as punishment for the squadron commander marrying a Jewish woman. Either way, it looks really cool.

    • Thank you @gblair . Yes, the 2nd. The squadron symbol, the Ace of Spades, was totally covered by the red stripe. In response, some pilots deleted the swastika on the tail. Those were fierce days, back then... I think if Goering wasn't in need of good pilots, things may have ended quite bad

  6. The excellent Eduard kit built by a master modeler: how can it go wrong?
    Congratulations, Manuel!
    Another beauty!

  7. Nice and clean, Manuel. Great model.

  8. Good looking build and love the paint scheme. Thanks for sharing.
