Hs 129 (Hasegawa/MN Hobby 1/48)
The Hs 129 caught my eye a long time ago. I don't know why, but the nose and fuselage look like something out of Star Wars. And when I discovered a Hasegawa repack from the Czech company MN Hobby with good 3D printed additions (MK 101 and 103 guns, exhausts, landing gear, gun sight), I couldn't resist.
The Hasegawa kit still looks quite good with its fine recessed panel lines and very smooth surfaces. Maybe it lacks the rivets that are so popular these days, but that's optional and I don't see it as a drawback. The kit is easy to assemble. But where the kit looks outdated is in small details like the cockpit, wheel wells, engines, etc. And this is what these repacks try to solve. 3D printed parts added by MH-Hobby solve the problem. I also decided to use resin wheels from CMK. CMK also makes cockpit and wheel well sets for this kit - it would be a nice addition if someone wants to go to the max. Seatbelts are by HGW.
I should also mention masks and foam plugs for the wheel wells and engines. While canopy masks are something most of us are familiar with, foam plugs are something I've tried for the first time. And I like it. In addition to the ease of use, you can remove and reinstall it as needed - to check something or other. Works good.
Eduard-like decals with (optional) removable film worked well, especially with the canopy where there is a decal on the side with angle lines.
Painting and weathering is pretty straightforward - AMMO ATOM paints for almost everything except the RLM80 mottling, which is Hataka lacquer. All of the weathering effects and washes are done with oils.
