Meng 1/48 F/A-18E Super Hornet
Here is my Meng 1/48 F/A-18E Super Hornet. Model depicts a jet from VFA-31 Tomcatters off the USS George HW Bush supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in 2017.
This was a fun model, but a very involved build due to the complexity of the jet. I had several excellent photos of VFA-31 jets from this deployment that I was able to use to guide the weathering, and really dial in the details like the paint chipping on the “pizza box” in front of the windshield, the corrosion control touch ups, oil leaks under the engines, and the dirt/wear patterns on the LEX and wings.
Aftermarket used includes DEF Models seat, Flying Leathernecks HUD and boarding ladder, Reskit exhaust, Gloria Model intake ducts, Eduard Brassin wheels, Master AoA probes, and Furball decals. Ordinance is a mixture of Eduard Brassin (GBU-38s and GBU-54), Tamiya (GBU-32 from their F-35B kit), Meng (AIM-9X and AIM-120C) and Flying Leathernecks (LAU-127 empty launcher).
Paints used were MRP and Mr Color. Weathering was a combination of oils, Ammo Mig washes and enamel effects, and colored pencils.
Great work on that F-18E Super Hornet build and weathering Toby
This is an award-winner at any show my friend. Marvelous job.
Really nice
Excellent result, Toby @tobsnelson
Your work on the painting and weathering is superb.
The work on the paint and wear - especially the accumulation of dirt, is really amazing.
An amazingly realistic end result. Excellent!
This is really a beauty! Well done!
Outstanding weathering.
Another awesome beauty, Toby! I REALLY love the mottling/shading of the gray paint. I've tried your technique but have not had anywhere near your success. The dirt and grime streaking ties it all together nicely. The paintwork and dirt on the bombs are artworks in their own rite. Well Done!
Looks like you nailed the weathering, nice work!
Beautiful paint and weathering work! Absolutely gorgeous!
Great work, Toby. I love the weathering.
Absolutely wonderful Super Hornet, Toby!
Congratulations!
