Tamiya 20014 Williams FW-07 1979 Dutch GP 1/20

May 16, 2025 · in Automotive · · 12 · 150

My second build. This time the FW-07 from 1979. With this car Alan Jones subsequently won the German, Austrian, Cnadian and Dutch Grand Prix. I always thought it was a beautiful car, especially because of the green and white colors that I really appreciate.

With the experience of my previous build (the Brabham BT46B from Fujimi) I managed to get everything to fit well. This kit is from 1980, but still was in terrific state (apart from the aged decals). Historic Formula 1 cars are great fun to build. The decals (after market from Decalpool) made the car truely come alive.

  1. Lovely work on this classic F1 car that took Alan Jones and Williams to the world championship that year.

It was a pleasure @chinesegeorge. 😊 But as far as I know Williams first world championship came with Rosberg in the FW-08 three years later.

      • Hi Harm, Alan Jones was World Champion, and Williams won the Constructors’ Championship for the first time, in 1980. Rosberg was World Champion in 1982. Williams went on to win nine Constructors’ Championships between 1980 and 1997, a record until Ferrari won its tenth championship in 2000. They are also one of only five teams in Formula One, alongside Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull Racing, to win 100 races, with Jacques Villeneuve scoring the team’s 100th race victory at the 1997 British Grand Prix.

How could I underestimate the knowledge of a Williams about Williams @chinesegeorge. šŸ˜€ Thanks for explaining it. This FW-07 is the 1979 version. I saw a lot of the 1980-ones with the Leyland sponsoring, so I choose this one.

  2. Excellent Williams, Harm!

  3. You did an amazing job on this Williams, Harm @hptiggelaar
I fully agree with the green and white color combination.
Also a nice option to be able to remove the cover and have a view on the engine.

  4. Very cool. Great work on those decals and finish.
