TSR2 Airfix 1/48th Scale
This the Airfix /48th scale TSR2. It is a really nice kit, and my only quibble, and it's a minor one, is that the panels lines were slightly heavy for the scale. I languished over the paint scheme, but ultimately went with a real scheme as opposed to a "what if" scheme. Of course, modeling the TSR2 in its test livery meant painting it white. I primed with Tamiya light gray primer, and airbrushed the white finish using Tamiya Flat White. I followed with a gloss coat for decals and weathering. I used an oil wash to highlight the panel lines, else the aircraft would have looked like a lifeless white refrigerator. After the panel line wash dried, I created a not quite flat sheen with a custom mix of satin and flat clear. The kit was assembled out of the box except for a set of resin ejection seats. The only other issue I encountered during assembly was getting the main landing gear stance correct. The main gear splay out slightly on the real aircraft but the model's mounting points for the main gear struts didn't result in the proper stance. I used slow setting super glue and a homemade jig to set the stance properly. The completed model is 22 inches long, so it takes up a lot display space.
Really nice and just the right colour with the panel wash
Nice work, Scott. We don’t see that beast built often.
Excellent build and equally excellent result from the very nice Airfix kit, Scott! A subject not often seen built.
Really wonderful build, Scottg @scott57
Beautiful. I will succumb to a wiffer scheme if I ever get to mine!
