What to do, what to do
First off---if this is the wrong place for this posting I apologize. Second: Just jumping back into the hobby after 35+ years I thought my first posting would be a finished project; but one knows the saying about good intentions. SO, here's my question. A seller on a certain auction site had a "Hasegawa Hurricane IID, two kits"... I bit. It duly arrived, and I must admit there are parts for two Hurricanes. However, one wing set is obviously a IIB, the other is a IIC---yet both noses are MK I. I can remove the MK IIB additional wing gun panels and turn one into a MK I, but what about the other? I don't see a source for aftermarket noses for MK IIs... and I understand attempting to acquire two nose part sprues from Hasegawa would be... pricey. Any thoughts?
And for some reason the pic won't load, but... it's a pic of a box of parts.
Question 1 : yes
Question 2 : resin nose perhaps will be more reachable than asking Hasegawa for parts...
Yes, but what brand? I'm not seeing any...
Welcome aboard, Brian!
And welcome to the hobby again!
I would follow Marcus @mvtb advice for sure.
Welcome to iModeler, Brian @wyvern1965
No need to apologize.
Seems like you are getting back into the hobby with a challenge already.
Going for resin parts as suggested by Marcus @mvtb, might indeed be the best way forward.
You could have chosen to create this topic in the General Modelling group.
Was there a certain message you got while uploading the image?
Thank you for clarifying... won't do dat again 🙂 No, no message, it just didn't load.
A gentle chide, and advice. Plastic modeling has certainly changed (a lot) during the last 35 years, mostly for the better. Welcome back to a vibrant hobby that offers so much more now than it did back then.
You are in a quandry, for sure, which is particularly bad for someone just getting started. This is the kind of situation that can stifle initiative, and can cause loss of interest.
My advice is to find another kit to work on while the present two-kit conundrum gets put on the back burner. This way you can be building while searching for answers/solutions for the Hurricane kits.
Again, welcome back to a great hobby.
Good luck on your restart Brian. If you lose mojo on one project, pick up another. Like many here, I have six in various stages of completion; most are ready for paint application. I find the major difference from the 1972 me in modeling is the tools available. A set of small files, a set of micro drill bits, small brushes for detail work and an Optivisor with a 5X lens for stuff I could see with the naked eye back then.
Regarding the Hurricane Mk.II nose in 1/48, I could not locate any such resin aftermarket items. I suppose the final word on that would be the section for AM products at the back of Valiant Wings volume on the Hurricane, and you might be able to get the two replacement sprues from the manufacturer for a like amount.
Perhaps the best solution here is building one set of parts with the IIB set o' wings, removing the IIB doors, and using my DK decals to build a nice Sea Hurricane MK I. Then swap noses with the other with one of my 5 Hase IIBs, and use the remaining parts wing to make a MK IIC... the leftover MK I nose from the parts box can do on the IIB, remove the outer doors once again, and have a MK I---I have tons of decals for that. No new parts to acquire, problems all solved. And I was able to get a nice MK IID yesterday, so that's covered. Glad to get all the feedback... If I can just get off my butt and start on these I can hopefully post something here soon... being in the aerospace industry, I'm working on everyone's planes except my own... Thanks to all!
FIRST of all, consider contacting the seller and tell him you did not get what was advertised, get a refund.
People on those types of sites Hate a bad rating, so that is your weapon. My kid got s--- from a guy because of a wrinkled box corner, so you have a much better case. The other idea would be go on eBay and see if you can get a cheap Hasegawa mark II that you can swap parts with. Hasegawas are cheap in these days of Armas and Airfixes and such. OR just write it off as a bad job and get a nice new Arma Hurricane. I am very lazy about returning things but that's just me. Luck to ye.
