A Pair of 1/48th CORSAIRS
"MAGIC FACTORY" 1/48th CORSAIR F4U-1A and F4U-2 KIT #5001
This kit is not for the novice builder but for someone with experience. I really enjoyed this build! From the parts, the maskings, the photo etched brass, and the decals, this was an exceptional project! The "DUAL COMBO" kit gives you two different decal layouts for each Corsair model type. I decided to make one F4U-2 from the kit, and the other was my own F4U-1A to match one of the many Corsairs piloted by Major Greg "Pappy" Boyington. I used "WARBIRD" decals #48047 and Tamiya acrylic and sprays. You have the option to build the model with wings folded up or wings unfolded and flaps down. I made both Corsairs with wings down, but only one model with flaps down. Hope you enjoy the photos!
Really nice looking Corsairs
Thanks George.
G’day Robert (@bsc4849),
Nicely done pair.
I have this in the stash. Do you have any tips on the construction?
Liked!
Thanks for the reply Michael. 1st tip is to have a good magnifier. The directions are of great detail but they're small. Also don't remove too many parts at a time from the sprues. They're very similar and lots of left and right hand parts with two models in one box. Most of the parts are a good fit. The prop shaft hole is too large for engine shaft. You might want to test fit then fill and drill. After the main assembly I left off some of the sub assembly like the landing gear, prop, bomb, fuel tank, pitot tube and antennas. Then paint, decals, clear coat, and final assembly.
Enjoy the build!

The kit I have has the option for 1 folded and 1 spread wings. Did you modify your kit to have both with wings spread?
Yes I did. Took a little extra fitting. But turned out OK
Nicely done, on both, Robert. This ones in my stash. I should pull it out soon-ish.
Thanks Gary.
