Airfix 1:48 16 Sqn. English Electric Canberra B(I)8

Here is an Airfix 1:48 English Electric Canberra B(I)8 . 16 Sqn. based in Laarbruch Germany. Love me some Canberra! Put enough noise weight in this one - hope the gear doesn't collapse... One oddity was decals. The roundels have a black border and I'm not sure whether that's an Airfix error or this squadron added this. Any insight?

  1. Boy, this Canberra looks familiar!
    Nice job!

    • Ha ha! Checked ur's out. Very nice with much more nuanced camo. And better decals!

      • I used Modeldecal Decals. They get things correct( I have never found fault with them after using them for 30+ years). Too bad Modeldecal did not do 1/48th scale.

One of my running themes is the "Saint" stick figure. My father turned me onto the books, and I loved the Roger Moore series. So far, I have in 1/72nd scale the Canberra, and a Monogram Tornado, and in 1/48th scale I have a Corsair III and a Spitfire Vc.

        • I like the Saint as well. Did the old esci Jaguar long ago with the Saint on the tail. I think there may be an all black scheme for it as well which is on my to do list. Will use the kittyhawk kit of which the black might mute the fit issues.

        • Here is a pic of jaguar I want to do. Not sure it was ever an operational scheme but cool.

          From the caption with pic:

This aircraft is operated and maintained in taxyable condition with the Aircraft Maintenance Instruction Flight at RAF Cranwell. Carrying an RAF black training livery this example bears the Saint markings of 16 Squadron which is actually a Grob Tutor training squadron based in the adjacent hangars. The squadron got the nickname of the Saints after it was formed at St Omer in 1915.

  2. Really nice. Went through my Canberra books and found nothing about the black ring

  3. Looks great! Never thought about the Canberra in "ground attack" mode, but seeing those rocket pods slung beneath her tells that tale!

  4. Beautiful work on the Canberra, Chris @champagnecrc
No clue either on the black rings, never seen it before.

  5. Beautiful Canberra, Chris!
Hard to say for the decals' black borders.

  6. I dig this! Thanks for sharing.

  7. Beautiful Canberra Chris. Very subtle finish. Nice one 👍

  8. Well done, Chris (@champagnecrc). I have always liked the various canopy configurations on the various Marks of the Canberra, and this is one of my favorites. I have all of the 1/48 Airfix Canberras lurking in my stash somewhere, but it will take some work on my part to come up to the standards on this build. Looks great.

    • Thxs for the kind comment. I also have, in my mind, too many canberras to build, Airfix and Classic Airframes, but I do like them. So many kits and so little time!
