Experimental: Bell X-1 Mach Buster – Eduard 1/48
This article is part of a series:
Despite this kit's relative "age", and it's somewhat crude design, Eduard's X-1 kit easily reproduces a great model of the aircraft so famously known for the world's first recorded supersonic flight.
The origins of this kit go back over 20 years, however this was their recent Profipack reboxing. I built this last year, and thought I would get around to sharing it this evening. The kit went together well given the nature of the kit (more akin to high end limited run). What the kit lacks in refinement, it makes up for in simplicity.
The paint job was pretty simple, primer under some X-6. There are some variations in the shading due to the inherent difficulty of spraying orange. There were many scheme options in this boxing, and I was tempted to do the half white / half orange scheme, but in the end I picked the fan favorite, which is how the X-1 appeared at its most iconic moment. The decals laid down well, however the decal carrier film took on a weird effect once I sprayed some X-35 over them. Of course, this was as unfortunate as it was unexpected, but I'm still pleased enough with the results.
Generally speaking, I'd recommend the kit to anyone looking to add a 1/48 X-1 to their collection.
I enjoy having this one on the shelf, as it stands apart from most of the green and grey warbirds. I hope you like it as well!
Very nice
The interior details really cap off the build. Too bad about the decals, but your overall finished result is wonderful.
Really nice build, Andrew @pb_legend
I agree that those interior details do add a lot to this already beautiful aircraft.
Nice job, Andrew.
Excellent result, Andrew!
Looks great!
Well done!
