Not Tamigawa, Tachikawa

Here's an aircraft I'd never heard of until I saw the kit, 's . From what I can find out, this kit was first released in 1983. To me the model is more characteristic of an earlier time. The engine detail looks spurious, clear parts are pretty thick, the cockpit is generic, the wheels and spats are a single piece. On the other hand, it has engraved panels lines and fit is excellent.

I bought a later boxing that included camouflage decals. In fact, the decals were the main reason I bought the kit. I thought it would be interesting to give them a go. Sadly, they were so brittle that they cracked and separated even on the simplest curve. So I decided to get out an actual paint brush and do the camo by hand. It was relatively easy since I just had to paint the rest of the aircraft gray. All I then had to do was brush on the green.

I added some scratch details to the cockpit, but you can barely see it through the thick canopy part.

It's no contest winner but, as long as you view it from a foot or two away, I think it looks pretty good and compliments the Axis Aircraft side of my WW II collection.

  1. Nicely done, Scott. The camo is very eye-catching

  2. Looks great! That is an advantage of 1/72 and brush-painting - you can get some nice, small detail work and camo scheme renditions to look well in the scale!

  3. Nice work, Scott. Excellent brushwork.

  4. Very nice work, especially on the camouflage, Scott @guitarhack5
An, till know, unknown aircraft to me as well.

  5. Nice work, Scott! Great brush painting!

  6. I know ‘Ida’ had a tough time with that camo scheme….nice work Scott.
Fujimi does have some nice Japanese subjects.

  7. It is not question if it is contest winner, it is important that you are happy with finished model. For me it looks very nice, and this is not an easy camouflage option.
    Well done
    Regards, Djordje
