Polar Lights K’Tinga Class Battle Cruiser 1/350

June 19, 2025 · in Sci-fi · · 7 · 152

I built this recently for a friend who had me build the original series Enterprise a couple years ago. It was definitely an easier build than the Enterprise kit, as it was molded in dark plastic, and the seams were all pretty closed up, so there was not much light leakage to deal with. I didn't have to paint multiple layers on the inside to keep the light from shining through the plastic. The light kit uses a self-contained battery unit instead of an external AC plug. Also it only weighs half as much as the Enterprise! The painting was the real challenge - hours and hours of masking to get the three-color scheme done. If I were to do one for myself, I would just paint it the original series colors - much simpler, and what I really want anyway for myself. As far as I know, there isn't a D7 series kit in 1/350th scale, so doing this one (from The Motion Picture) in that scheme is about the only option. My kit was missing the decals and instructions, so I contacted Polar Lights. They said they'd send me the decals, but it's been 5 weeks so far…Oh, and there is an aftermarket shuttle bay in resin for this kit that I would want to try for my own version of this kit. Thanks for looking!
