Throwback Build – 1/48 MH-53E Sea Dragon “Black Stallions” (2022)

This article is part of a series:
  1. Throwback Build – 1/48 MH-53E Sea Dragon “Black Stallions” (2022)
  2. 1/48 CH-34 Choctaw – Remembering Operation Hunger (1959)

Every time I look at it, I'm reminded why I keep coming back to this beast of a .
The silhouette, the surface details, and the way light plays across the weathered panels—it still pulls me in.

Here are a few notes from the build:

  • The rivet and bolt details were upgraded with aftermarket parts, individually applied to bring out the panel texture.
  • The greasy, oily streaks and semi-gloss spots on the surface were all painted on, not decals.
  • Some subtle dents were sanded and highlighted with shading and paint layering to simulate field wear.

Built in 2022, this model has been sitting on my mini hangar shelf, and I still enjoy revisiting it again and again.
