Hasegawa 1:48 Fw 190A-3 Kit #JT90
I think most of us are familiar with this kite...Oberleutnant Armin Faber landed in the U.K. by mistake after a furious dogfight over Devon, 23 Jun 1942. If not, a quick Google will provide lots of info and images. This model was eight years in the making: unhappy with my Dk. Earth selection, lack of ℗s, broken tail wheel...etc.Its a Hasegawa kit so an enjoyable build except for the gear retraction mechanisms. I needed tweezers, three thumbs and a pokie thing. Photos show this aircraft had the inner gear doors in the up position while on the ground. This should have been a quick project but the doors were 1mm to long, out with the file. Hasegawa would have you place the pitot tube inboard of the outer MG but photos show it to be outboard. I used Vallejo Model Air Golden Yellow for the lower colour. My Dk. Earth was a Tamiya mix of XF-64 Red Brown and Flat Earth XF-52, about 1½/1, close enough for me. Dk Green was good old Tamiya XF-81 Dark Green 2 (RAF). I used a combination of Oramask for the flat surfaces and Tamiya for the bendy bits. The aerial was Uschi van der Rosten. Not sure what that thin whitish stripe is at the back of the fin flash. Its not there in real time but maybe some gloss that I missed as it in the rudder hinge
A great result after eight years, George @blackadder57
After all the struggles you created a beautiful Würger.
Well done.
Thanks John @johnb . Several more in the to-do pile that are possibly older and I'm trying to get these done before I start something new
A wee cracker.
Always look better in captured colours.
Thank you very much
Nice work, George.
Thanks you John
Nice to see a tiger in different stripes. I ghosted your build blog and appreciate your formula for Tamiya Dark Earth. George this is a smart, tight build that is easy on the eyes.
Two thumbs up.
Thank you Stephen. @stephen-w-towle The Dk. Earth mix was originally 1:1 and didn't look quite right so I kept adding drips of Red Brown until I got it close to what I saw on other builds
A butcher bird looks good in any colors and yours certainly does it justice. Well done, George.
Thanks a bunch, Gary
Excellent result, George! Loved following your build thread!
Appreciated Spiros
A Würger in RAF dark earth, what a sight to behold! Great build, George @blackadder57!
Thank you very much Felix
Looks great, George (@blackadder57). For some reason, we don't seem to see many 190s on iModeler, especially in such an unusual paint scheme. It was a pleasure following along on your build. Well done.
Thanks George. Glad you came along for the ride
Hurray. Love the captured aircraft schemes. Very nicely done!
Thank you very much
Another nice one, George @blackadder57. I always look forward to the latest addition to your “captured series”.
Thanks a bunch Eric
Excellent work, this looks great in the captured scheme plus it makes this a very interesting subject!
Thanks kindly
Nice one George!
Many thanks, Dale
Well done, a fine looking British Butcher Bird!
Thank you, sir
Sorta like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Great finish on your Hasegawa Butcher Bird.
I remeber reading somewhere that 'Thanks to Armin Faber' Hawker was able to design a very effective rad cooling system for the Tempest II Centaurus engine.
Thank you
