Monogram 1/48 C-47 "That's All Brother"

July 13, 2025 · in Aviation · · 18 · 377

I was about 13 years old the first time I built this kit. I hung it from my ceiling then, and that's where this one is going. Thanks to it's wingspan it won't fit on any of my shelves. This thing is huge, and I'm not kidding!

I was inspired to built it as "That's All Brother" after my son got a ride in it a couple of years ago and I learned its story. With the exception of some Foxbot stencil decals, all markings are painted using custom masks I made with a Silhouette Cameo cutter. The model is completely rescribed (phew!). The main camouflage colors are MRP lacquers, and details are painted using a variety of other paints. The weathering was achieved with artists oils and dry pigments. I added some resin goodies in the form of Plusmodel parapacks, Quickboost engines, and Ultracast propellers.

  1. Wow! That is a fantastic build! You made the absolute most out of that kit. Your photography really helps to show how you gave this kit the presence of the real plane. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Was just thinking about starting my Monogram C-47 two days ago, now I get to see this beauty of a build! looks fantastic! I need to resist pulling mine out of the stash until I get a few more partial buidls finished!
fantastic work, I will be googling about the use of those parapacks...
...ha ha, if you want real ones- although they will not fit on your 1/48 C-47...

  3. Outstanding. I have the civilian version and looking at what it takes to get it turned into a Dakota. I know the passenger door needs conversion but not sure what else

  4. "Neat build "That's all, Brother" was found on the property of Basler Turbo Conversions and was a candidate for being converted into a modified C-47 with a stretched fuselage, two new turboprops, modified wings, and a new avionics package. Fortunately, Air Force historians combing through records and serial numbers found this veteran sitting down the road from the EAA Aviation Museum. And cooler minds prevailed in resurrecting this phoenix."

Cool build Marshall (@crowtrobot), your Monogram build captures the look and feel of this veteran. Has enough weathering, the cockpit wind screen is mounted properly with everything being butt up next to the fuselage. No light or space can be seen. A common problem with some builds. Two thumbs up on this one.

  5. Spectacular work, Marshall (@crowtrobot). Just re-scribing all the panels and cutting stencils for your own markings elevates this into the exceptional category. I got to visit San Marcos in 2019 when they were getting ready to fly over to the D-Day remembrance in France. Well done.

  6. Great work on this. The paint and weathering is outstanding.

  7. Fantastic result, Marshall!

  8. An excellent build, Marshall @crowtrobot
A very nice remembrance of your son's ride in this specific aircraft.

  9. Beautiful, Marshall! I had the pleasure of visiting her in San Marcos often and saw the progress on her. One of my friends was on the flight crew taking her to France and back. A beautiful bird, indeed. I have a soft spot in my head for the C47/DC-3 as I rode on several and did 5 static line jumps from one.
    She's just lovely.

  10. What an awesome looking build! Thanks for sharing.

  11. Oh holy moly that was a lot of work for an outstanding completion. I have one and some wonderful markings but doubt I’ll ever get to it. And its size is a factor too. That’ll look damn fine flying the cloudless ceiling of any room. Congrats!

  12. I tried to hang it last night, but I got cold feet. It kept wanting to go all cattywampus on me, and I had visions of it crashing to the floor. I managed to just barely eek-out some shelf space for it, but one good sneeze and the left main wheel will slip off the edge. That's a 12" deep shelf, and I'm going to replace it with one 14" deep.

  13. Marshall, to paraphrase Fernando (Billy Crystal) That looks mahvelous. It really does. It is probably safer on a shelf as long as the wing tip is not caught by a shirt sleeve.

  14. What a Beauty chap. Well done. There is something special about the whole line. It's a bit like the DHC Beaver. At a show I generally challenge people to show me another warbird that is still doing what it was designed to do...Not many, but this is one of them. Great job. Someone kindly gave me this kit and yep, panel scribing is a must 😳. I would love to build mine as an AC47...

  15. Excellent result, all the extra work was definitely worth it. Those old R/M C-47s rock!

  16. Looks fantastic - well done!

  17. Great looking C-47 Dakota build there Marshall (@crowtrobot) highlighted by the nice photos you took. I did one of these old Monogram kits up for the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. Still a good looking representative, despite its age! The invasion stripes look brilliant on these big aircraft. (and the paratroopers were a nice bonus inclusion in the kit as well!) Thanks for posting - Cheers
