While in high school I would joined the reserve VMF-215 squadron, Olathe NAS,Ks, week-ends,and worked in the para-chute loft, servicing the old corsairs, , and later the F9F Cougars , and would go to Fairfax airport, Ks and go up with my Uncle, and get a lot of "flight time".. after school I went to boot camp, San Diego, then to El Toro MCAS and since I had lots of hours, got into the "flying-non-coms" of the Corps .. then to New River MCAS, and went up with several Marine officers in one of the L-19 we had...then went aboard the USS Tarawa and got the opportunity to get one of the "bird-dogs" they had ... at the same time I was an LSE .. (Landing-Signal-Enlisted) that, with two others, "took-off", and later brought aboard the UH-34 choppers of MAG-26 Squadrons.

Can't remember the area/country we were at, but flew some over there ...then back to New River MCAS and played some semi-baseball, with two other Marines, with East Carolina College, "Pirates"...

then mustered out in '58 ! OOH RAH ...
