My modelling interests centred originally around aircraft, but other projects include armour, civilian vehicles, figures, ships and dioramas, and these have achieved gold-medal standards at the British Nationals and other regional exhibitions.

I've had a few projects featured in photo galleries on Cybermodeler, Armorama, and Aeroscale, but find I'm never really satisfied with a completed model, and so keep building in hope of achieving that elusive 'perfect model'.

I enjoy looking at the work of other modellers, for inspiration.

1:16 Sopwith Camel F.1 – Fuselage

Arguably the most difficult and complex part of the build to date, the fuselage is now complete, with the exception of the cockpit coaming, which is added at a later stage. As with the wings, the structure was built up directly over the [...]

Sopwith CamelMore or Less

I've completed the empennage and lower wing of this 1:16 model. If I'd taken the photos a week ago you would have seen a real dog's dinner, but somehow it all came right. I'd mentioned previously that I probably wouldn't include images of [...]

Review: Mantua Models 1/98 Ship’s Boats for HMS VictoryKit Review

Ship's Boat Set 1:98 (for HMS Victory, Art.776) Mantua Models Art. 36530 £34, from www.mantuamodels.co.uk I recently completed HMS Victory (Constructo 1:94). However, the kit lacked a full compliment of boats, apart from two cutter-types [...]

1:16 Model Airways Sopwith Camel F.1: Top Wing

The individual sections of this build are complex and, as with the all-metal engine (with air-screw) recently, I'm only posting completed sections, to avoid it spooling into a never-ending WiP. This is the top wing completed, with the [...]

Sopwith Camel F.1 – Working with Wood

I hadn't thought I'd be posting any updates so soon, but the airscrew came together rather quickly so I decided to add a few images. The details in the book/plans aren't a 1:1 version so I had to find old Air Ministry specifications for [...]

Sopwith Camel F.1

A new project, and unusually for me these days - an aircraft, in this case a 1:16 Sopwith Camel from Model Airways. The model is wood and cast metal, with other sections of brass as well. As can be seen from the large plans it's a [...]

HMS Victory, 1805

The Ship: HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is best known for her role as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. She [...]

SBD-3 Dauntless, Battle of Midway (repost)

I posted this project here three-and-a-half years ago, and sometime back Martin indicated it would be OK to add previous project photos when the Midway Group Build went live. The kit is Trumpeter's 1/32 offering, with additional scratch [...]

Interesting Work

Here are a few images from other forums I came across recently that I thought were interesting and worth sharing - Ben Lavender (Airfix presentation), Hoshi Miuriwho who painted the figure, Alan Kelley who did the FA-18A and the armour dio [...]

HMS VictoryEnd of Construction Phase

Following another 100 hours of work - overall project time now at 850 hours - I've reached the end of the construction phase. As can be seen, it's now at its full dimensions, at just over a metre in length and 80 cm in height, with the [...]
