Baby boomer trying his hand at building models again for the first time. Things have certainly changed since I was 16. Tube cement, small testors bottles of paint and some decals, what more was needed? Started building again in 2009 and have begun learning some new skills and techniques ever since. Have lots of appreciation for those that do excellent work with this hobby, some of the results are truely museum quality. Hope to pass on a love for this hobby to my grandson.

Monogram 1/72 UH-16 Albatross

My contribution to the Water Wings group build is this ancient Monogram kit introduced in 1957. Props that rotate, gear that retracts, and a little life boat with downed crew. What kid wouldn't want to build this. Grumman built over 400 [...]

Accurate Miniatures 1/48 P-51C

When you get some time off, build some models is what I say. Seem to be on a P-51 kick right now and here's my latest off the work bench. Had some trouble closing up the fuselage but believe it was operator head space and not the fault of [...]

1/48 Monogram / Mattel P-51B Mustang

I've actually considered not going to model shows because it seems I'm a s****r for picking up very old kits. This P-51B is a show purchase that I've just completed as a fun weekend project. It was fun to build, however, it took me longer [...]

AM 1/48 A-36 Apache

First completion of the year, essentially started before the Christmas holiday but just now completed. This is the old Accurate Miniatures kit of the A-36 Apache from which the now defunct company produced various versions of early P-51's. [...]

Revell 1/48 P-38 Lightning

A blast from the recent pass. This kit has been around forever so I thought I would try my hand at a natural metal finish. Used Tamiya TS-17 gloss aluminum from a rattle can. Then added some True Detail wheels and an UltraCast seat. Got [...]

Revell 1/48 F-101B Voodoo

Built this strictly OOB several years ago. Always liked the looks of the Voodoo which was part of the Century Series of jets used by the USAF., in the 50's and 60's. The Voodoo was usually armed with two externally mounted Genie nuclear [...]

Hasegawa 1/48 F6F-3 Hellcat

My first Hellcat since I started building models again..Lots of little flaws on her and they were all self inflicted. Fit overall was very good and the only issue I have are the kit decals, the white portion appears mostly cream in tone [...]

1/52 Grumman J2F Duck

Not a water wing group build but my first attempt at building a bi-plane that just happened to be amphibian as well. First flown in 1933 this reliable old bird was sturdy and remained operational for over two decades. Argentina even used [...]

1/48 AMT P-70 Nighthawk

Finally pulled this off the shelf to complete my A-20 series of aircraft. I discovered that working with black is about as difficult as working with NMF. This model represents a P-70 that was with Detachment A, 6th Night Fighter Squadron [...]

Hasegawa 1/48 Willys Follow Me Jeep

My first attempt at a military vehicle completed several years ago and before owning an airbrush. Had some vague idea about using it for a diorama.but do to "sometimers" the idea has been lost. This kit was a bit of a challenge [...]
