As I promise next Vickers Wellington in Costal Command Painting.

I have some holidays and after that busy day in work, but finally I started A long-delayed project for the final version of the Marine Wellington. This is a rather rare model I purchased on an online marketplace. The seller wanted to "make me happy" and included photoetched parts for the flaps. I hate these parts on the PE variant, so I put off starting the build for over a year. Since I won't be very creative with the bomb bay this time and, like @johnb, I won't be sawing the hatch flaps into pieces, I got determined and started assembling the flaps. I won't say it was fun, but I hope it looks alright.

I really like all of the maritime schemes, Bernard (@lis). This one should be fun. I avoid PE flaps like the plague because of all the tiny parts that all have to be bent and glued. Your flaps look awesome. Is this the Airfix kit, or one of the others? I noticed that Academy is starting to offer 3D printed parts for some of their kits. The set that caught my eye was the dive flaps for the 1/48 SBD Dauntless. They look really nice, and they are all in one piece.

@gblair That is final Trumpeter version of Vickers Wellington with ASV Mark III radar and new Bristol Hercules Engines. Kit has good fit but has few really nasty shortcomings:

    -Too Narrow undercarridge

-Thick clear parts with unreal big frame of clear areas.

    -underscaled crew compartment (for dwarves?)

-missing interior over ASV radar (I scratchbuild common place for the observer/bombardier)

So If You want to make Vickers Wellington from Trumpeter, Mark XIV is optimal option because there is no any another manufacture that has late Vickers Wellington. Early versions is better from MPM or Airfix.

I bought this impressive sheet of decals and At first I want to build Canadian version from 407 squadron with a sleeping dwarf as nose art but front glazing is different as in box. Do You see differences?

@fiveten Thank You! This is a very delayed project of mine due to concerns about making the PE flaps. Forgive me for not filing the bomb bay flaps. I simply don't feel like it.

For me forgot. Kit Decals has two options with Polish and Australian markings but colors of code letters are bright red no ocean gray! So that sheet of decals need fly to the basket. As I read on YT Trumpeter decals are quite poor and thick. Besides, the Trumpeter instructions generally ignore the topic of painting interior details and leave much room for guesswork. The overall paint job itself also has incorrect colors listed, suggesting dark green instead of dark gray.

I agree with a lot of the comments the marine Wellington done up in white looks promising. With the kits short comings, I would go light on the interior, not much will be seen or missed. The focus would be on the landing gear and after market wheels and correcting the canopies and windows.
Glad to see Wellington reach out to the community. Paw-fect pose for the camera.

Like @stephen-w-towle says, don’t sweat the interior and enjoy the white scheme. Plus, always do what Wellington wants, @lis!

I agree with everyone else, Bernard (@lis). Build and paint the interior as it is, because not much detail will be visible through the windows. I don't always put a lot of faith in the diagrams seen on decal instructions because they often use a generic depiction of the plane that shows where the markings go. Find some good photos for reference.

Wondering what version the Wellington's nose from the kit resembled, I started working on the rear turret. I decided to replace the barrels with turned ones for better durability. The KV-Models mask set fits so-so, so I modified them a bit. Unfortunately, they're the only company offering masks for the GR Mark XIV. Also I made main gear bays, and Tou can see how it is narrow. After analyzing the parts, it turns out that the Mark XIV's nose was probably field-modified, because none of the photos in my previous post resemble the one from the box. What a pity… I found also nose art in color „sleepy boy”.

Wellington clearly seems to get you in the right direction, Bernard @lis
The differences seen on that nose seems like a mistery, no idea where Trumpeter got the information from.

    I recived few aftermarket goods

Also I build both wings (quite good fit), and started work with engines. I’m supeised that kit has alternate tropical filters, but in manual there are notice that this parts are unused. considering that the manufacturer offers in box one painting from Tunisia, his way of thinking is incomprehensible.

Great progress and great extras, my friend @lis! Many times kits offer extra parts, even if they are not to be used. Good for the spares box 🙂
