Hasegawa decals aging mostly had to do only with yellowing and not shattering, my friend @johnb. There's a first time for everything, I suppose. Thankfully, the situation looks manageable, though I will have to paint the guns' red cloth covers 😬
Decals make a big difference, Spiros (@fiveten). I have had old Hasegawa decals crack and shatter at times. I have always thought this had to do with their old decals being really thick. I have also had them go on to the model well, but would shatter after I added some decal fluid.I think the old decals just get brittle. In any case, they look great on the model.

Just discovered that a coating with Microscale Liquid Decal film vastly improved the decals' behaviour. Maybe I should have done such treatment from the start...
