One thing that was giving me a little anxiety was how to make the shark jaws that decorate the front of the flying bridge. There’s some pretty lame examples out there spoiling perfectly good looking Orcas. I’d toyed with th3 idea of 3D printing but decided to go old school on this.

    A little ‘Fimo’ -

    A bit of shaping -

And the jaw ‘bone’ itself is anatomically ok - now I just needed to drive myself a bit nuts shaping and glueing tiny teeth to the ‘cartilage’. And when I say tiny...

On giving the Jaws the full dental treatment, I think the teeth definitely need to be smaller, will get to that tomorrow. That said, this set of Jaws looks pretty scary. Great White on steroids.

I’m no ichthyologist (try saying that after a few beers on the poop deck) but as it is, it’s got more of the look of a Piranha than a shark.

Whoo man - I don't envy you attempting to get those teeth down to scale! You might need to move from a magnifying glass to a microscope! However, I KNOW you are the man for the challenge.

Greg, the old eyes (to say nothing of the steady hand needed, possibly not killed as many neurones as I’d feared) must be bearing up better than I thought. At least now I know that this is ‘doable’. I’ll be home by 22:00 this evening - if I get stuck in, I’ll be finished by
    tooth-hurty...

    Hello David,

I came across this and thought of you and your Orca. You’ve probably seen it before. Interesting how The Orca got into Spielberg’s Head!

Paul, I’d never read this until this evening; just reading it through on the train home and wearing the kind of smile that makes other commuters wonder what the hell you are up to.

    Thanks, @yellow10

    David,
Ever thought of getting that shark jaw reproduced on a 3D printer? If we could all afford them, we'd be making some wicked stuff.

Matt, this is the ‘finished’ jaw (I say ‘finished’ because this scratchbuilding bug has created a never satisfied monster)...

I did think about getting a set of Jaws made up but ultimately, the desire to scratch it won out. There’s one guy out there used s tiny set of baby dogfish Jaws, frankly looks a wee bit ...silly, in my opinion, but 10/10 for inventiveness.

Tom Cleaver, commenting on a post about a home spun pair of shark jaws - made my day.

Thanks, Tom. And Matt (was telling my daughter this story the other day) the last time I was called ‘badass’ was in 1981; drove my Kawasaki 440 ltd up two flights of stairs in the high school science block. Was expelled for a few days, but boy...was it worth it).
