This morning I started crafting a base for the Orca. Nice to see her sitting up; the change of angle and seeing the hull gives an aspect that makes her look more like the boat in the movie.

" The Force be strong in this one." A ships model placed in front of a Yoda figure or is it a alter or perhaps a cookie Jar. I don't know this subliminal stuff is beginning to be work.

At this stage of the build ...those natural endorphins should be kicking in and a little excitement and enthusiasm would act as a wave of momentum for the completion of a"Bad A*s " model. As it now stands...

Caught this photo a few moments ago, Stephen...

Love this poster, shark against the boat. The shark as a presence, a shadow below the surface, an unseen predator always there threatening your sanctuary. The fragility of life. We all cling to our own Orca, but the shark is out there...

LOL this drinking coffee and trying to spell has got me all Jazzed up. Then the photo of the cat. "PAWS" put a hole in my lips and some coffee too. Yes your model is in danger of curiosity and the cat. Or the beginning of a new B movie starring a cat fish.

One of the real inspirations (and huge amount of source material) for this Build is this book, ‘Jaws Memories’. Very large book (“your gonna need a bigger coffee table”..) and crammed full of photos.

As you can see, there’s a lot of detail regarding the Orca, and it’s a surprisingly entertaining read in its own right.

Great build David. She really looks like in the movie! Somehow I wish this thread will go on and on and on... 🙂

Its all good. This what I like about modeling is the research and trying to find the "Character" and look and feel of what you or your audience pickups when looking at your work. Somethings can't be written to be experienced and you can pick stuff up through photos and work it into the model. While having a little fun in the process.

Wow - what a transformation to see her sitting proud on that stand! She's no longer an inanimate conglomeration of materials in the hands of an external force, but suddenly has opened her eyes and inherited a soul! She just looks like she's calling out, "paint me, weather me, bring me fully alive!"

I song for me now one for you. Good luck getting this shanty out of your head. Beware you will be humming it as you build your ORCA. Listen at your own peril matey!

Greg Kittinger. Behind that ‘wheels-up’, man of action, there’s the beating heart of a poet. A beautifully expressed post, my friend. I was very moved by that, thank you.

(I’m still walking around the house singing ‘Love Shack’, baby...)

Thanks, Michael, you’ve given me a whole other level of nuts to sink to.

Some photos of recent progress; the iconic yellow barrel makes its first appearance. Also lit up the cabin with LED bulb in a styrene made lamp (which if anything is a little bright as you can see...) - the scene I’m pitching for is the Orca at night, around the time of the ‘Indianapolis speech’ - as seen in the poster below. Be nice to see her in the evening, light in the cabin, imagining the guys comparing scars.

Reasonably pleased with this as a first attempt. The barrel shape’s fine and dimensions are good, just needs a little more skill applied on the next attempt and we’ll be there.

Made and stuck on some batten fasteners to the hull. Getting to the point now that every added piece makes a significant difference.

And below, built the keel (was in two minds over this, as it disrupts the overall shape - after all, you never see the keel in the movie - still not sure if this detail will make the cut) and puttied the hull, ready for priming.

    Keel, below...
