Ah, Tom, you'll make me blush.

    Some ‘mood music...’

Some progress made, but mainly in detail work. May be helpful if there’s any other nuts (‘enthusiastic modelers’) who may want to build the Orca.

The fasteners for the interior battens...

Soldering skills tested to their limit in 3 dimensions, making the weather vane for the top of the mast...

    Making the shark tail detailing...

    Putting it all together...

    Attached to the mast...

Had to amend the stand plinth to accommodate the keel...

This is some beautiful work David... something tells me that soon you will put the Orca in a tub of water to see if it floats... 🙂

I'd paint it first, as the wood will absorb water and may cause problems during the painting stages.

    I'm likin' what I'm seein' 🙂

Yeah, I too am surprised you haven't put some filler into this balsa as you have gone along.

    This is really amazing work.

All the sub assemblies all come apart, which allows me to seal the wood before priming.

Below, I’ve layered the hull and the decks with a few coats of diluted PVA which will seal the balsa to take a primer, after which I can get on to the painting stages.

    David,
She’s really looking great. Every little detail you add is impressive.

Given the subject matter and the amount of blood ...this model looks to have been built in a surgical suite (or should I say sweet with Belgian candy) . Given the placement of the pieces with everything having a place and purpose one can only assume that the out come of the Orca will be a Oscar winning performance.

My bench looks like the "Battle of Stalingrad" with casualties.

Absolutely excellent, David! I'm enjoying both the build AND the postings!

Thanks, Matt. This build is something of a personal project (when I was a kid Movies and books were my escape and surrogate family) so details are important. Have to say I’ve never been happier modeling than when I’m at he bench on this build. Whatever floats your boat, I guess...

Taken 54 years to collect the skills, patience, and tools to have a crack at this in the way I want to, so it’s very satisfying to hear such encouraging comments.

Appreciate the support, Jeff. Over 400 posts; not sure how THAT happened, and I’m always surprised you guys don’t have better things to do than watch some old guy stick pieces of wood together.

Trying to find a ‘51 Korean field jacket - other than eBay (prices are silly), any thoughts on where to source one? Thinking of getting one to give my son with his name printed on the pocket flap (Christmas, never too early to plan ahead...) he’s also a ‘fan’.

Stephen, I tried the 'organic' approach to my bench, but there's something that just won't let me concentrate when things are out of place. Not OCD, more just a neat freak thing. That said, what order you see is on the bench; if you look underneath there, it's not pretty. Neat metaphor (hey, and a pun).
