Hi Eric (@eb801): I just realized that I kept dropping a decimal when we were talking about 3D printing the other day. The time to print each layer is 3.0 to 4.0 seconds, not 30-40 seconds. It would really take a long time if it took 40 seconds per layer.

I had some minor success today printing small parts for the model. The parts have been painted and added to the cockpit. I am still working on getting a good print for the seats, but I am getting closer to having something usable. I also want to print some radios and a tank for the hydraulic fluid, both of which are visible in the cockpit. Cheers everyone.

Thanks, Tom (@tcinla). I am using the model as a canvas to try out these 3D printed parts.

    Looks absolutely fine, George @gblair
Good choice to paint that knob white.

The name of the game today is finding the right size seat. I have been printing several seats, one of which is from the T-6. I found what I thought was the right-sized seat and then went about trying to get a reliably good print. I solved the reliability problem, but then I discovered that the seat was too small. The measurements of the bottom of the seat match the bottom of the kit seat, so I assumed the back of the seat would be OK. When I put Freddy (my crash test dummy from the kit) into the resin seat, the back only came up to a point below his shoulder blades. That was really too short. So I have been scaling the 3D print of the seat to keep the seat reasonable, but have a seat back that would work. The scaling works on a percentage of the initial file, so I was working with scaling from 6% of the original print to 10% of the original print. I finally settled on a 9% scaling of the original file, and I have 2 good prints done. Now all I need to do is paint the seats and attach the seat belts without destroying the seats. We will do that tomorrow. Cheers.

Looks like you finally found the correct dimensions, George @gblair
Will look great inside the interior.

Great that you found the correct scaling, my friend @gblair! Looking forward to see the seats completed!

Hey @gblair - what would it cost to get a set of those seats to use in my T-6?

Hi John (@johnb), Spiros (@fiveten), Tom (@tcinla), and John (@j-healy):

I have officially given up on the resin seats. They look great, but by the time you reduce the print size by 93%, the entire structure is so fragile that it is impossible to use. I got some good prints, but many of them broke when I removed the supports. Only one seat survived both removal of the supports and assembly, and I tried supergluing some plastic to the seat to keep it in one piece. It broke when I tried to add the seatbelts. I may try again sometime in the future, but for now I want to get this kit moving forward.

My plan is to modify the kit's forward seat and scratchbuild the rear seat. I got the forward seat done and got most of the rear seat done. After spending the last week fooling around with printed seats, it felt good to finally get something done.

The SNJ-4 had a tall antenna mast in front of the windscreen that wasn't present on the later versions. Although this kit is for the T-6G which does not have the tall mast, I was pleasantly surprised to find this mast in the kit. Apparently the armed version that you can also build from this kit had the tall mast. The kit has two forward fuselage sections, one for the trainer version and one for the armed version. The section for the armed version has a hole for the antenna mast. It was a simple matter to transfer the location of the hole for the antenna mast from the armed section to the trainer section.

It was grandparent day at my granddaughter's pre-school, so that is all that I got done today. More tomorrow. Cheers everyone.
