I took the time today to add the last small details to the plane while I am waiting for the replacement engine. The rear canopies had two small handles that were used to position the various parts of the canopy. I created them using very thin plastic rod, followed by some small pieces of strip plastic to act as the handle. I also added the tube gunsight to the front windscreen. The gunsight came with the resin detail set I used and is very detailed. I had previously added a plastic support to the front cockpit glare shield as seen in cockpit photos, and today I added a thin wire support to the front of the tube. The front pane of the windscreen originally had a large, unsightly slit in it to accommodate the gunsight, but the actual plane had a round hole for the gunsight. I added some clear plastic, cut and shaped to fit in the slit, to the front windscreen to fill most of the slit. I left a small round hole for the gunsight. I wasn't sure the gunsight would fit in the hole I left in the windscreen, but it fit perfectly. I "glued" the gunsight into the windscreen using Just Like Glass. All of the added parts were painted and I was done for the day. I am still considering how much weathering I want to add to the plane. The plane looks pretty clean and well-maintained in my photo of the actual plane, so I may settle for some engine exhaust and call it good. Cheers everyone.

It's all of these little additions you are adding that are taking this model to the next level(s). I never knew about the canopy handles. Your mods to the telescopic gun sight are also top notch. I know you have mentioned the "Just Like Glass" before... Where do you get it from ? Hobby Lobby or a place like that ? Thanks in advance.

Your canopy masking, and the touch up paint work between the Dark Gray and White along the demarcation lines look very nice. Keep it going, the weekend will be here before you know it, and you will have an engine for this bad boy !

Impressive, George @gblair. Those handles really do take it to the next level. The gun sight tube is awesome the way you added that strap and weathered the other end.

Thanks, Louis (@lgardner) and Eric (@eb801). I have stalled on this plane for as long as I can, so I may start another one tomorrow while I am waiting for the new engine.

I typed in the wrong name for the "glass". It is actually "Looks Like Glass" from Deluxe Materials. It works like Future, and is actually a little shinier than Future, but not as durable. You can get it on Amazon for about $14 and from MegaHobby online for about $10. It is really good for bringing the shine back to glass, and it really does make it look like glass. I try not to mask over it, so I don't dip canopies like you would with Future. I tend to brush it on after I have painted the frames. I carefully brush the "Glass" between the frames...the glass gets shiny and the frames stay flat. You can also use it as a canopy glue. :o)

Canopy glue? That’s valuable info, George @gblair. In reality and you can verify this from your own personal experience, I’ve never seen 1/1 canopies as clear and shiny as we all strive for. Don’t forget the adage: “So many models. So little time”. Sounds like you have a respite now so go to it and start a second build. That’s why I have finally come around to constructing a multiple build project instead of concentrating on just one model at a time so as to fill in the lag time rather than.watching the paint/glue, etc dry.

Thanks, Eric (@eb801), Spiros (@fiveten), and John (@johnb). These small additions were fairly simple and worked out surprisingly well, especially resin gunsight and the updated front glass. The Looks Like Glass isn't advertised as a canopy glue, but it is thicker than Future and fairly sticky, so it seems to work fine for canopy glue. The sliver of clear plastic is used to fill the slot in the front windscreen was glued into place using the Looks Like Glass. I still use white glue of some type for most canopies because it is thick enough to act as a gap filler. I tend to build only one model at a time because of my workbench. Not because it is small, but because it usually looks like a war zone when I am building. I tend not clean the bench until I have finished a build. Putting a second pile of parts on the bench just seems like asking for trouble. But another reason goes back to high school. When I started dating, I had a fear that I would call someone by the wrong name if I dated more than one girl at a time. For my entire dating life, it was one girl at a time. I guess I am just a linear thinker. Besides, if something is drying on a model I simply work on my model train layout. Works great.

Well, the good news is that the replacement engine arrived today (Who knew the post office delivers on Sunday?). The bad news is it arrived as I was finishing my 2nd hour of cleaning the garage in 103 degree temps. When the engine arrived, I was ready for a shower and dropping into my chair in the living room. Engine tomorrow. :o)

Thanks, Spiros (@fiveten) and John (@johnb). I am trying to move slowly on the engine so I don't mess it up.
