    Dear all

Having just finished my Vickers Wellington i wanted to get started with my next build, which is this lovely 1/72nd scale Airfix kit. It's a small project before i dive into the new Airfix Lysander.

So here is my question to you all: Airfix describes this as a Hurricane stationed in northern France in the Spring of 1939. Wikipedia says, Squadron No.1 was sent to France (together with three other squadrons) only in late August of that year.

Therefore, can this scheme be considered acceptable for this group? If you think not, please let me know! Then i will choose something else for this group.

Seeing that you let my Battle of Britain aircraft be a part of the "early" war, I say absolutely.
    👍👍

    Guys, thanks a lot!
Alright, i started the kit. It is nicely detailed and yet not overly complex. I painted the interior but did not bother weathering it. Some Eduard seatbelts were added. Closed up the fuselages and primed, sanded, primed again, etc. You know the drill!

Merci beaucoup, John @johnb, Gary @gwskat and Spiros @fiveten. The mold has been used extensively as there was quite some flash. I did not have this with earlier editions of the kit. Nothing too bad though.

I added a first layer of white as preshading on top of black by using my AK interactive stencil mask. I then added Sand Desert and Ochre. The underside is the classic, beautiful black & white scheme.

Airfix got the date wrong - it's Spring 1940 and so this scheme is just fine for this group.

Nice start, Felix (@fxrob). When looking at paint schemes in diagrams, they usually give you a date that is a specific point in time. I always figure that the paint scheme existed for a period prior to that time, as well as after that time. So, I think you have chosen a great scheme. Pre-shading looks great.

    Dear all
@johnb, @fiveten, @gblair, @tcinla and @gwskat, thank you for your feedback and comments!
That a scheme exists for a certain period of time instead of just a specific date makes a lot of sense, great point, George @gblair.
Thanks for the correction, Tom @tcinla!

So i added a first layer of brown by using a 0.2 needle and of course it covered up most of the shading. Having used too much thinner it was also blotchy. So i went back to square one, put on a 0.15 needle and added new shades to the struts on the wings to highlight them. I also added some very dark brown to the panel lines. I find it quite difficult to add these small detail on such a tiny kit. Let's see how this works out when i add new layers of dark brown!
