Some very nice progress, Felix @fxrob
The picture shows they can look brand new. I'm sure she will look great.

Some fine work you are doing, Felix. Nothing wrong with modeling at your own pace.

Right or wrong, I never pre-shade prior to painting. All of my "weathering"...or as I like to say, accenting/giving depth/bringing it all together...is done after painting and decaling with artist oils, washes and highlighting. I feel I have more control over the outcome. Again this is my personal preference way of modeling and in no way am I dissing those who like to pre-shade.

I have not doubt your technique will come out looking as great as your inspirational photo! Looking forward to seeing your progress. Maybe I'll learn a new approach to modeling.

@fiveten, @gblair, @johnb and @gwskat, as always thank you guys for your kind feedback!

I am definitely not going to do any preshading. Like Gary said, i will focus on oils and washes mostly. While doing some research for pictures today, i came across a few interesting images. And i noticed that small glass panel in the corner, which Eduard did not provide any masks for...and which are painted on now in my case. This lad his his covered, the same way i do:https://hamfisted-modeller.blogspot.com/2020/02/172-airfix-vickers-wellington-mk-ic-no.html

and the Airfix boxart has them as glass panels: https://uk.airfix.com/products/vickers-wellington-mkiac-a08019a?

Naturally i am a bit upset as i cannot undo the paintjob. What to do now?

Also not sure about the gap between the fuselage and the cockpit window. A bit frustrated right now.

Hi Felix (@fxrob): If you used acrylic paint, you can easily remove the paint using a Q-Tip and either alcohol or Windex. When I have to do this, I use a Q-Tip for the center of the area, then use a microbrush to get up against the frame. Good luck.

I can imagine the frustration, Felix @fxrob
I'm not sure what the correct way is, having it painted or not. If you want to have it open, are you able to remove the paint with a toothpick for example.
The gap seems to be present on the original aircraft as well when looking at the first picture.

You can either leave the window as is or try our friends' @gblair and @johnb suggestions, my friend @fxrob. I think the gap is ok.

As others have said a toothpick will remove the paint easily. Don't rush and be patient.

Thank you for your helpful advice, everyone (@fiveten, @christopher, @johnb, @gblair, @gwskat! I will try either alcohol (would a cleaner from the airbrush do?) or the toothpick. Although i have never used one without leaving some scratches, no matter how carefull i am.

I have used a toothpick to remove paint, Felix (@fxrob), and it does work without scratches if you are really careful. I have even soaked the tip of the toothpick in alcohol to help persuade the paint to depart. It also helps sometimes to carefully wet the offending paint with alcohol to soften the paint, then use a toothpick. The window can be polished to remove scratches, but it is difficult when it is already installed. If the scratches aren't bad, you can try simply brushing Future (or similar) on the window. Good luck. Windows can be frustrating.

So today i tried using a toothpick with some alcohol on top of it. It worked out reasonably well, think. In any case, that panel is very small fortunately.

I did however have to take off the cockpit canopy again, as there was an unpainted spot behind the new piece of glass. Needless to say one of the side windows that are slid back broke off and then the whole thing wouldn't fit properly anymore. There was a noticeable gap in front of the canopy. So i had to go in and use liquid putty. God i hate correcting stuff like that. After that dark earth again - which was thinned down a bit too much, i do hope none of it slid under the masks! Oh lord.

I finally got round to doing some accentuating of the geodetic structure and highlighting some stuff by using lighter hues of dark earth. I think that works pretty well on the wings.

That canopy is fighting you a lot, Felix @fxrob
You did a great job correcting it.
The shading on the geodetic structure looks really nice.

Lots of work to pre-shade all of the structure, Felix (@fxrob), but it will be worth the effort.

Excellent job so far despite the challenges, my friend @fxrob! Great that you were able to remove the paint and great (re) fixing of the canopy. Good job on accentuating the geodetic structure. Looking forward to your next steps!

You certainly are not letting the challenges get the upper hand. All your extra effort is paying off...the build is looking good. Interesting approach to show off the structure. Like the others stated...it will look great.

Phew @fxrob she’s putting up a fight! Fascinating to see this taking shape! Thanks for starting this GB, such a great idea. This evening, I’m enjoying catching up with all the great work in show. On balance I feel you are still well on top in this arm wrestle! Looking first class! Knowing your love for, and excellent outcomes from Airfix kits, there is no doubt this will end up a beauty! Thanks again!
