Used as a ground attack plane during the invasion of Poland in 1939, the Hs123 was Galland’s mount during the Phoney War period until he convinced the ‘powers that be’ his Rheumatism meant he should fly in a closed cockpit. After which the rest, as they say, is history.

Why do I feel a tug at my wallet...

Another great entry into the group, Paul (@yellow10). I always worry about getting the parts mixed up when I build more than one kit at a time, but no threat of that with your two builds.

A biplane with fixed wheels is always a great idea! Gorgeous choice, Paul @yellow10. Eager to see your progress!

Thought it was time to crack the seals on this one, while waiting for a couple of weathering products for the tank.

Very positive about the fit so far. Upper and lower sections of the top wing went together without any issue at all. Very tight fit actually. No gaps and perfectly aligned. Plastic reminds me a little of the decent Airfix stuff and also a little of Eduard’s. A touch hard but sands really nicely, with care. If you look closely at the picture of the lower wing sprue, you’ll see the attachment points are quite large, but time and patience are all that are needed to work that out.

So, not much progress other than familiarisation with the instructions and the nature of the plastic. The fuselage halves are dry fitted and go together very well. I’ll paint the upper wing early. Preshading and splinter camo with three colours!

When I picked this kit up a few years back I got a Yahu IP and some HGW belts. Had I not, I’d have gone for the Quinta set, but I’m happy enough to hand paint a few bits and pieces on what is a fairly well hidden interior.

Unfortunately my wife’s family have suffered a loss - Katie’s dad’s cousin. They are a close knit bunch - especially ‘Aunty Judy’s’ generation who lived together as kids, with their dads away during the war.

Anyway, bench time will be reduced for a short while with a trip to the funeral now being planned for Tuesday, just as work starts up again!

Anyway, at first look this seems a decent kit - good news as I have shelved the last two 1/48 biplanes I attempted. So currently 2 finished and 2 in the ‘way too hard pile’. Hopefully this one goes over the line a little more easily!

Cheers gents, a bigger loss to my wife: I will be sure she knows my modelling friends have paid their respects!

Meanwhile, a little more dry fitting. Really good fit from the 7 parts on view here. Any ‘over-sanding’ will be an issue. The fit includes angled mating surfaces and overlapping parts. It is a great bit of engineering but I am acutely aware that it will be pretty unforgiving if I’m too heavy-handed!
