Good morning everyone. I wanted to do one more model for the group, and I had this 1/48 HobbyBoss Bf-109E-3 in the stash. This kit started out in 2015 as an easy-build Bf-109F, but was released in 2024 with parts to make it a Bf-109E-3. I am sure that an easy build kit will have some compromises in detail, but I wanted to build something a little more relaxing than my last couple of builds. I hope those of you who are 109 aficionados will forgive me for taking the easy road on this one and will look at the build with one eye closed. :o)
I got some canopy masks and a little extra detail for the interior. I found a cool paint scheme in a Kagero book on the Bf-109E Volume 1. The decals are included with the book, so I get a chance to use some really old decals from a manufacturer that I have never used before. What could go wrong? The paint scheme is for a Bf-109E-3 in the winter of 1939/1940. It is a little unusual because by this time most of the fighters had transitioned to the RLM 02/71 over RLM 65. This plane is carrying the earlier camo of dark green over light blue. This plane also carried the Totenhand (Death's Hand) insignia, which is also pretty cool. I hope to get started on this tomorrow. Cheers everyone.
