I used Yellow Ochre for the Green and Raw Sienna for the brown. This, to me, gives a nice highlighted/faded appearance but still within the color range of the base colors.
Each was thinned with mineral spirits as a wash and applied with a brush. After wicking off the excess on a towel, I found dabbing the surface with the side of the brush gave a nice patchy look. After this wash dried for a few minutes, I lightly wiped it down with a dry soft brush to blend. I repeated the entire process a few times until I was satisfied...
One rule I learned years ago that I apply to the wash/blending/weathering process...and to most areas that require an artsy feel...
"when you think it needs a little more...DONT DO IT!...it will be too much.
