Going through some documentation about the Lysander, I came across a very weird looking variant. The so called Tandem Lysander, a turret was mounted at the back of the aircraft and a weird looking tail section modification was created. The picture below is taken from the Warpaint series book (no. 48) which contains lots of great info.
This definitely looks weird, my friend @johnb!
Straight out of "Stop That Pigeon"...for those of us who remember that cartoon.
Excellent subject, John!
Hi, John (@johnb). I have a book that has the worst airplanes ever created, and this one is in there. The British really tried to put additional firepower in everything, didn't they?
@fiveten, it absolutely does, Spiros. Some creative engineering.
@gwskat, I had to look it up, Gary. It was not show here that often but I do remember that cartoon.
@j-healy, thank you, John. I'm eager to start with this one.
@gblair, yes they did, a lot of creative vehicles and aircraft were constructed during the war, just to get more firepower.
Please just stick to the regular Lysander, John @johnb 🙂
For sure I will stick with the regular one. Made a start yesterday with the seat. A nice set of PE was used to create the seating part, quite some bending required but it does fit not too bad in the end.
That looks really nice, John.
Photoetch like that scares me, John (@johnb), but yours looks perfect. PE is probably the only way to create a seat like this.
@gwskat, thank you, Gary @gblair, thank you, George. Not my favorite material as well, but if it cooperates it improves the overall looks a lot.
Excellent job on the seat, my friend @johnb!
@fiveten, thank you, Spiros
John @johnb, i can see why etched parts offer additional detail, this is both delicate and beautiful. But i could not do it, too small for my clumsy fingers! You will build a fantastic looking interior.
@johnb great choice. I was always surprised how tall the Lysander stood in the Museum at Hendon. It’s a brilliant looking plane and I know you’ll do a stellar job with it!
I have built this kit in the distant past. It is a very good kit. I do remember (and I had to go back and fix this) the angle of the wings is way out and they droop. I ended up moving the attachment point of the struts but only after getting it wrong!
Best of luck! Looking forward to seeing her shape up!
