You could be right, Cricket (@bikequeen). If it is too cold, perhaps the paint was thickening on the way to the model surface?

Those chrome colors seem to be quite sensitive when applied during a too cold day, my friend @bikequeen. Still, the result is acceptable.

A too low temperature is never good, Cricket @bikequeen
From the picture I would say the result is not that bad.

@gblair @fiveten @johnb Thanks for the input I’m not happy with it, this paint is very thin and also 9 bucks a bottle so I dont want to waste it. I have another kit that I can take parts from and redo them with Metallic Grey , i just liked the chrome. And I dont want to wait til spring :/

Also I got a hose for my new airbrush and all the fittings so It’s good to go exclet, once again, it’s to cold to use it….SIGH. I can step out the back door and use rattle cans quickly but can olny use the airbrush in the garage and it has no heat.

Spray painting is usually sensitive to temperature and humidity, Cricket @bikequeen, I can appreciate your difficulties. Spray cans are easier to use in cold conditions as they can be warmed up a little before use, not so easy with airbrushes I guess. Those AK metallic paints are magic though.

Sorry to hear about the problems with the paint, Cricket (@bikequeen). I think we have all had similar problems at one point or another. Would a space heater in one corner of the garage work? I am sure you know about the evils of a space heater, but there are some that could safely heat a small portion of the garage. I built a spray booth for my acrylics so I can paint inside, but the rattle cans I still use in the garage.

@chinesegeorge @gblair it was in the 40’s when I shot the paint. I’m to impatient to be modeling :). I did the engine block with the AK Duraluminum and it came out GREAT, but the temps were also in the high 50’s. I was pumped about the AK Chrome. The garage is hopeless and there is no place in the house to set up a spray booth, it’s a tiny house with me, 2 dogs a parrot and a husband :). I had a nice shed to work in but my husband took it over for his amateur radio stuff….so I can spray in there anymore….oh well.

I did think of putting a small heater in my truck as it has a ceiling exhaust fan and I could probably make some kind of tent in there…I dont know, I have the other Ninja kit I can take parts from it. I really liked the chrome and the 1/1 bike has chrome on it…..but I digress 🙂

Hi Cricket (@bikequeen): The temps are relatively mild here in central Texas, so I can usually find a time during the day to spray. More of a recurring problem here is the humidity, which also plays havoc with painting. Indoor painting is usually OK, except on the really high humidity days, but outdoors would be out. Even indoors is a problem when the humidity outside is above 70%. Air conditioning can only do so much. I am sure your model will eventually look just like the photo, but the weather needs to cooperate.

@bikequeen - Hey Cricket, I've been able to use my airbrush right in my office with no overspray issues at all. I put up a couple pieces of foamboard as backdrops, then at 18 psi, I'm not spraying enough to make it an issue for breathing... a simple cloth mask would definitely be enough if you were concerned. I do only use acrylics though, so less dangerous to be in the room with.

While I wait for the weather to warn enough to airbrush the chrome on this bike i did this for a friend 🙂

Supposed to be in the 50’s tomorrow so maybe I can shoot the AK Chrome on the parts tomorrow ..but will also be very windy and then bOOM the temps will drop radically and that will be that for awhile…they sating snow Sunday/mpnday and crazy cold temps

@fiveten thanks for the kind words Spiros and @brithebuilder no way I can paint anything in this house, it’s tiny and we have a parrot so any kind of fumes are toxic to him

Temperature here in Chicago will be in the single digits by the weekend. Ah yes, winter in the Midwest, don't you just love it. Anyway, I like your parrot. Polly want a cracker? Okay, I couldn't resist doing that!

A very nice bird you have there, Cricket @bikequeen
I agree it is not wise to airbrush inside the house with him around.
