My Kinetic F-84 and details parts arrived today.

After much personal deliberation I've decided to replicate the F-84F flown by the 174th Fighter Squadron from 1956 - 1958. I was hoping the MN Air Guard flew the F-84 but it looks like Iowa is the closest midwest state to do so AND there are great reference photos for tail number 52-9089—so that will be my entry for this group build. Here we go gang.

Beautiful airplane, Matt @coondog ! It’s always nice to see an Air Guard aircraft as a model subject.

Anybody else get these instructions with their Kinetic kit? Fortunately, the correct ones are available as a PDF. Ha!

I love this paint scheme, Matt (@coondog). That is one of the nice features of sites like Scalemates. This is the same model I am building, and I haven't run into anything evil, so far.

    Great entry, Matt @coondog
Luckily only the instructions are incorrect and the parts are still the correct ones.

Great pick, Matt. I actually remember seeing Illinois ANG Thunderstreaks as a kid. They were in SEA camo at the end of their careers. They were pretty common to see in the Midwest. Indiana, Missouri, Michigan, and Ohio Air Guard units also flew them in that part of the country.

And so it begins. While I'm finishing up a V-22 Osprey, I shot the exterior surfaces black for tracking progress of sanding the pebbled finish down to get that nice NMF surface.

Also cracked open the instructions PDF and laid out the decals on the 2D blueprint. Pretty sure I'm going to paint the yellow & black, but we'll see as we progress.

That's a good idea of spray painting the parts black for sanding Matt @coondog. I have a magnifying lamp and constantly run my fingers over the surfaces to be sanded but , having a visual aid certainly speeds things up. I should have had a V8. Followed by a slap of the forehead moment.

Great idea to spray black on the exterior to track your sanding, Matt (@coondog). I wish now I had taken the time to sand mine also. Looking forward to watching yours come together. I wanted to do an ANG plane, but they all seem to have some form of solid color edged with a fine stripe. Fine stripes always make me pause and rethink the paint scheme.

Good idea to spray all black at first.

Good call for using the black guide coat on the jet. I do a similar thing when I’m working on the final stages of body work on my car restoration work. It allows you to get a perfect finish.

I’m looking forward to seeing your next step.
