I’m working on steps 3 & 4, trying to get ready to close up the fuselage halves . I’ve got the intake put together, and the speed brake well painted . All the parts fit in place perfectly. I wish all models had such great fit. During the work week I don’t have as much time as I’d like to do much on a model, I work 3pm till 11:30 pm. This is such a nice kit, I look forward to working on it, it isn’t as much of a battle as some kits can be

These books have some nice color photographs. I’ve been looking at the photos of F-84s to see the various shades of aluminum on different sections of the aircraft. I’d like to try to replicate as many of those as I can .

Some really good progress, Jay @ssgt
The work week is conflicting with bench time indeed, I fully recognize that.
Where did you get that metal ball from? I do know that George ordered them at Amazon.

You are doing great with your Tamiya F-84. I have one started in my collection of unfinished projects. From what I remember it was a very good model for building.

Several years ago I built a tribute F-84E for one of my dad’s childhood friends who was shot down and killed in Korea by a Russian Captain who was flying in a MiG-15 with North Korean markings on it.

I was trying to find a picture of the jet in which he was shot down and became MIA. His name was Mike Rebo and he flew in the 49th FBS.

By chance do you have any pictures or additional information on the event ? If you can please look into this I would sincerely appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I posted the F-84 on the 70th anniversary date of his disappearance on November 10th, 1951.

I’m posting right now using my phone so I don’t know if I can include a link of the model. I used the Revell Pro Modeler F-84E and it went together very nicely. I used foil on it too.

The serial number for Mike’s jet was 51-549

Please let me know if you find any information or pictures of the jet in your books.

I think I have figured out how to copy and paste the F-84E that I was talking about with you earlier today.

This is a picture of the model that I built to represent the jet in which he was killed in.

This is a model of the MiG-15 that shot him down. Mike was of Russian descent, and ironically the pilot who shot him down was also a Captain in the Russian Air Force.

    Thsnks , John @johnb !

The metal ball was in the kit. Tamiya provided it. You can use it or a clear plastic rod can be mounted under the tail to keep it on its nose wheel .

Louis, @lgardner , your F-84 & MiG-15 look great. Yours was one of the models I looked at before I started my current model. The foil you used makes them look very nice and realistic , like they just rolled out of the factory. I’ll look thru my books and see if anything is mentioned about that pilot or that squadron he flew with.

Reading about or watching videos of Royce Williams fighting all those MiG-15s alone in an F9F and coming out on top always leaves me feeling happy. I wish people could learn to get along and work together .

Hi, Jay (@ssgt): Looking at your completed parts, it is amazing how similar the parts for the straight-wing and swept-wing really are. I have a Revell 1/48 F-84E that I may try to do after this F-84F. I actually like the straight-wing better. I think it looks cooler.

Thank you, Spiros @fiveten ! This one has parts that fit together perfectly , like the Tamiya F4U I recently completed.

Those two books are a treasure trove of nice color photographs. I’m happy I bought them .
