Your build goes pritty good! Did you fill the gap between fuselage and this large part on the top with holes for plane crew?

Thanks John (@johnb), Lis (@lis) and Spiros (@fiveten),

I just scraped the upper fuselage to match the sides but I do think I'll need some filler.

I was a little worried about just filling in the major gaps at the wings roots, worried that if I just used filler then cracks may develop with handling and painting.

That's when I noticed a post from Jay (@ssgt) about using stretched sprue for larger gaps.

I tried to use some plastic from the kit, but the plastic just fell apart when heated. Finding a piece in the scrap pile, I made a few pieces until I got the right diameter. Looks like the sprue work fine as now there's a solid connection at the wing root joint.

This approach seems to be the correct way, George @georgeswork
Looks good and no chance of cracks while handling.

    Thanks again gents,
I remember reading that the Val may or may not have had the same or similar wing design as the Heinkel HE70.
Comparison with the Revell/Matchbox HE70 kit, there definitely is a similarity in shape and dimensions are pretty close.
Although, the Val did have folding wings and the trailing edge is different close to the fuselage.

Was not aware of that either, George @georgesworks
    They look very similar.

That Val is coming along nicely, @georgeswork. The engine looks good, I like the interior blue color you concocted , it looks nice on the inside of the engine cowling.

Indeed, those two wings are, at least, very close cousins, my friend @georgeswork!

Val was build after examine of German Heinkel by IJN.

Based on the parts layout - in particular the separate insert for the top part of fuselage for D3A1 - it definitely is a reboxed version of Fujimi's Val.

Looking forward to the plane in its completed form!

    Thanks for the comments gentlemen.
There's definitely a similarity in the aircraft wings.
Well...every joint needed either a little or a lot of filler!
That was a lot of sanding and scraping but it's finally time for a quick wash with Windex and a soft brush.
Checking out the landing gear, it looks like I'll be needing more putty...ugh!
