Gold to see this one back in the workbench @airbum
The IJN orange looks quite good from here and as usual your magic around those navigation lights add a lot of realism to the model

Thank you for comments gents. I have to say I am rather pleased with the nav-lights @fiveten, @holzhamer, @johnb and @lgardner.

    Salty seas

I did paint the propeller the other day

But only after first a layer of silver, then a week to dry, some salt (!) and then after a further few days to dry, it got 3 thin layers of brown

Now it is off to some water and a stiff brush (using xtracolor enamel, not some acrylic product, so it needs the right time to set)

next up, the salt will have been removed – I only hope it won’t take another 4 months!

Thanks @fiveten and @johnb – the wait is over!

    Salt (and paint) off

I removed the salt in a waterbath the other day

and after the paint had some time to cure, I polished the blades this evening

I am rather pleased as this is my very first attempt at this method, and the result leaves a lot of room for improvement, but not bad I think.

I should have been more thorough in my cleanup of the plastic I see in these closeups – time will tell if it gets sanded down and re-finished, just to gain some experience – this build has been underway for so long now that a few months more won’t really matter. . .

    Thanks @fiveten and @johnb

    More orange – and metal

Having installed the undercarriage the Nanzan got a round of gloss Orange

I think that should prepare it for decals?

The plastic tubes installed earlier were shortened to act as the holes for the locating pins on the whitemetal parts

I did not get around to superdetailing the wheel wells

so hopefully they will be hidden from view.

next up it should be decaled and perhaps even with the finishing coat of semigloss/semimatt and the last parts painted? Tune in to check.

    Decals!

    Finally time for some decals?

Having waited for a long time, I finally decided to add decals to this one.

In order to let them sink in, I helped them with some micro sol and running the rounded edge of my pliers over the panellines

Looking closer to the real deal now

still in need of details and some varnish

and the numbers will need to be sourced elsewhere as the Seiran decals are too large for a Nanzan

If I am unable to locate some proper markings, I shall have to make some masks I guess?
