John and Spiros, I enjoy the rigging part of biplane builds, gives you a sense of achievement.

Spiros and John, I cheated a bit , left 4 turnbuckles out and ran the rigging cable through the cross bar, it would have been too crowded if all turnbuckles were present.

    Good approach, my friend @firelockg.

Finally the top wing is on, the PE rigging lost some tension , but such is modelling. Overall I think it turned out to be a reasonable build, some minor paint work went awry and some detailing could have been better but it will do.

Spiros & John, thank you for your encouragement and following the build. The double cable PE rigging was the only thing I regret using, we learn by our mistakes.

Sadly I have been radio silent lately on here lately. Lot's of stuff going on this time of year and ultra busy. Hopefully soon I can get a little more bench time for my WW1 builds that are underway.

I have almost missed your project as it was happening, and for that I am sorry. I am most impressed by how the turnbuckles turned out. They look fantastic, and I like how they are free to swivel once secured on one end. I will have to copy your ideas on how to do this when the time comes for my Reed Chambers "Flag Bus" SPAD XIII... 🙂 Above all, I'm impressed with your painting and rigging work. Very well done, even though the rigging has lost some tension. Do you think you might be able to come back and tighten it up a little, or possible try using some EZ line on it with your existing turn buckles ?

    Happy New Year my friend.

Louis ,good to see you back, thank you for your comments and taking the time to study the build. The only rigging that lost tension was the double wire PE rigging that came with the kit. I used it because the SPAD does have the double wires with covering in that position, so is probably impossible to tension it without major works. All other rigging was done with Kastenmodel stretch rigging as I consider it better than EZ line. The Kastenmodel only stretches a small amount and so can aid stability in the build. The Kastenmodel is not cheap and I have had to buy direct from Japan to get it, but well worth it.

One other thing I must mention is that I studied Mike "sandbagger" Norris's build blog for insight and reference and highly recommend the site to anyone for building WW1 aircraft.

Fantastic build @firelockg. Ian my story is similar to Louis, but so great to return to the site and see so much activity. Another brilliant addition to the group!
