So, the new Eduard P-51B/C Mustang with the dorsal fin arrived here this pas week. A profipack kit and twp overtrees.
One of the Overtrees will become the 2-seat "squadron hack" of the 334th Fighter Squadron of the 4th Fighter Group in 1945. The airplane appeared in several paint schemes - the one it will be here is the first, an NMF finish.

Very cool, Tom (@tcinla). This should be a fun conversion the parts from an Overtree kit. Looking forward to the conversion.

Looking forward to those projects, Tom @tcinla
That 2nd seat position looks very cramped, did this aircraft have a second control stick as well.

No controls in back - strictly for passengers.

This looks like a cool conversion Tom (@tcinla). Are you using a left over canopy from another kit or are there extras in the overtrees kit?

@clipper - The Profipack kit came with both the Malcolm Hood and the Coffin Lid. That one's going to use a Malcolm Hood. So I took the open Coffin Lid sections. This Overtrees kit is a Coffin Lid (there are two different overtrees kits, for the canopies). Fortunately the back seat uses a different seat from the front.

Thanks for the information Tom (@tcinla). I have a few Eduard Mustangs (all D's) and with all the extra parts, could probably apply some of those parts to the Tamiya kits I have (two), if needed. But I want to get at least one B kit from Eduard at some point.

Once you do an Eduard B, you won't do the Tamiya again.

This looks like a winner of a project. How much surgery is required Tom @tcinla?

That rear passenger compartment is something I wouldn’t want to squeeze into. My back and knees hurt just looking at that photo.

Not much - see the next post.

Heres the first work. This is a very easy conversion.

For the wing, I plugged the gun ports with Evergreen rod, and then cut a piece of Evergreen sheet to fill in the shell ejection chute.

The fuselage halves need to be cut back for the second cockpit. I measured what needed to be done using the closed canopy part.

Next up is detailing the cockpit.

@eb801 - you definitely wouldn't want to squeeze into the jumpseat in back in a P-51D. Your knees are right under your chin.
