This Eduard P-51D-10 is painted with Mr Hobby "Super Metallic 2" paints and Tamiya's new lacquer-base acrylics.

The fuselage and tail surfaces are in Mr Hobby Super Duralumin, with various panels in Superfine Silver, Super Titanium, Super Stainless Steel all thinned 50-50 with Mr Color Leveling Thinner 400. The wing is done with Tamiya "Gloss Aluminum," thinned 40 (paint) 60 (thinner) with Mr Color Leveling Thinner. The fabric covered rudder and elevators are in Tamiya "Mica Silver," thinned the same way.

As with the MiniArt P-47D-30, these paints do a great job of bringing up the very petite surface detail.

The model will be finished as "Tar Heel," flown by Capt. James Starnes of the 505th FS, 339th FG in late 1944. It's the airplane Bert Stiles was flying when he crashed while pursuing an enemy fighter and was killed. (He holds a special place in my life and heart - I grew up a block away from his home, studied piano with his mother from age 7 to 13, and he and I are the only two writers who ever graduated from South Denver High School)

I can't say enough good about these paints!

Continuing with "Bare Nekkid Ladies", I chose to do this Eduard P-51B in a scheme that doesn't have a lot of colorful markings to distract the eye from the overall NMF finish. Fotunately my search of eBay for P-51B decals let me snag "S.E. Asia Mustangs: 23rd FG P-51s" parts 1 and 2. I'm currently torn between "Lope's Hope III" and "Little Jeep", both of the 75th Fighter Squadron.

The sheets also have Ed McComas' F6C from the 118th TRS, top-scoring USAAF CBI ace John C. Herbst'sP-51B-1 "Tommy's Dad", and Charles Older's P-51D, "Yokohama Yardbird" - an option I have long looked for since I was fortunate to know Judge Older here in Los Angeles (the most "formidable presence" I ever knew), also Ed Rector's unnamed P-51D and Tex Hill's P-51B "Bull Frog I."

Lots of little-known alternatives to 8th AF Mustangs. Looks like 2024 will be another "Mustang Summer" here at Le Chateau du Chat. A man can't have too many Mustangs!

Also, the old paint-covered work table is gone, replaced with this glass-topped table a neighbor put out for disposal - always a nice smooth surface, from which paint spills are easily cleaned off.

    Looks really good, Tom @tcinla
The black tail is in nice contrast to the shiny surface.

Another excellent Mustang coming to life, my friend @tcinla!
    Looking forward to the markings!
A man can't have to many Mustangs indeed, thus eagerly looking forward to The Man's forthcoming Mustangs!

    Great result, Tom @tcinla
You don't see a lot of Mustangs with that loop antenna.

Mostly in China, where there were long distances and not many aids to navigation.
