Thanks Al, I used Tamiya acrylics XF 24 Dark Grey and XF Olive Drab for the top side.
And for the underside I used XF 14 IJN Grey, AS I said in my posting I have found that the Vallejo Satin Varnish to be very good, thinned about 50/50 with their own thinners, it levels out nicely and leaves a smooth finish.
