This is going to be an epic battle for me and will probably take a while to complete these. I hope this is the right place to put this as I couldn't find a "Build in Progress" section. Anyhoo...the battle. On April 1, I went in for surgery to fix a detached retina that pretty much left me blind in my left eye. The surgeon was pretty impressed with his own work but cautioned that this has a 70% success rate. One month later I can make out shapes and large letters but they are still blurry but much better than three weeks ago. The problem here is my depth of field is totally hooped, I'm wearing an eye patch when modelling to prevent the left eye trying to take over the good eye. The detail painting of my first subject took a lot of do-overs to get levers and knobs painted. So...the three I'll be working on. The first, I didn't even know I had; Tamiya's 1:48 Fw190F-8 to be done as a "captured" 401 Squadron(RCAF), Fassberg 1945

The second one is also the same kit as above I have no idea when I started it. There was no instructions in the box and I was missing the main landing gear covers. There are parts for covers over the struts so I'll be doing this as an aircraft from 1/SG2, Hungary 1945. Standard camo with white stripes over all the top surfaces, a winter camo.

The third Wurger is also Tamiya, the Fw190A-3, to be done as the done in RAF colours on Oberleutnant Armin Fabers kite when he accidentally landed on an RAF airfield. I stopped building this as I was unhappy with my Dk. Earth choice. I have since found a good mix and will be respraying shortly. Most people have chosen to paint this Dk. Green/Ocean Grey but there seems to be a directive of non-operational aircraft to be painted in Dk. Green/Dk. Earth. This was close to the RAF change over and they were struggling to get operational aircraft in the correct colours so I doubt they would waste them on this aircraft. Sorry for the rambling. This will be slow so please bear with me

A really challenging project for anyone, George (@blackadder57), but having to work around your flak damage must be very frustrating. Glad you are back to working and I know you will have a great recovery from your surgery.

You started a great project, George @blackadder57
I'm definitely following this with interest.
Good to hear that the surgery shows signs of recovery of your vision.

Thanks guys. Out of town at the moment. Headed south to see the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in concert. Before I left I attached the tail feathers on the first subject. Once I get this one caught up to the second subject. I’ll start spraying

Wow, George (@blackadder57), I listened to the Dirt Band in the 60s and 70s. I didn't know they were still touring. Enjoy the concert.

Thanks all. Imma gonna let my thread in the Headlines slowly fade away. Concert was fantastic; we were in the sixth row from the stage

Finally got something to show three days later. Sprayed everything that needed sprayed RLM02 using Vallejo Model Air. This is the original version from so many years ago and one of the few RLM colours or any other colour they got right back them. I can't tell you the bottle number as it wore off but it has that nice tinge of 02

Landing gear and accoutrements. (A) is for the second subject which only have partial main gear covers

Cleaning Vallejo from the airbrush is a pain in keester so I use a combination Medea, Vantage Modelling Solutions (VMS) and Vallejo airbrush cleaners flushed thoroughly with water...works for me. As is my wont., I always let Vallejo sit for 24hrs before moving on. Vallejo is more fragile than most paint but if I let it sit I rarely have any of the problems others seem to have

Your RLM 02 looks good, George Henderson (@blackadder57). I gave up on ModelAir a long time ago, but mainly because it was fragile. I never had any trouble cleaning my airbrush using 90% alcohol. I am still using a Paasche H-1, so it is really simple to clean. Tamiya is my go-to paint, but you have to get used to mixing the colors you need.

After you talked about going to the concert, I went and looked them up online. They started way back in 1966. I remember listening to them in high school (I graduated in 1969), so I figured they started in the 60s. I was also surprised to see that Jackson Browne was one of the original members, but he quit early and went solo.

Seems like you had a wonderful time at the concert, George @blackadder57
Great work on the RLM02. I agree on the fragility of Vallejo paints, I do use the ModelAir series as well and it happens often that I do have to repaint certain areas. Good idea to let it dry for a longer time, I will give that a try.

Thank you Gentlemen. Still trying to get confirmation on colours for Project One so this is on hold. This is what I'm after and there are discrepancies between photo and profiles. Also, the top colours could be 75/80, 75/81, 75/82, leaning to 75/81.

While in debations, moved on to Project Two. I've read that the best undercoat for yellows, reds and the like is pink. The fuselage band is yellow so I give you pink

I'll let this set up and spray the yellow band and touch up the bottom of Project Three

Some very good progress, both in modelling and research, George @blackadder57
I heard about the pink base as well but never tried it myself.
