Good morning Spiros @fiveten, @faraomike, @johnb, @gblair, Eric @en801. Thanks to everyone for looking. The kit arrived very quickly, a big box crammed full of goodies.

I’m still waiting for a couple of extras, but there’s more than enough to be getting on with.

The instructions are very nicely printed in colour and are divided into sections, engine, transmission, etc.

At the start of each section is an illustrated list of the parts required marked in red, beginning with the engine.

The paints are listed from Meng’s and Acryvision’s colour charts so I’ve written in the basic colours, as usual I’ll be using Tamiya’s spray cans as well as their acrylic and enamel paints. The Honda V6 engine is mainly finished in black and construction is covered in detail here on three pages.

This is going to be a long term project, perhaps my last, I turned 75 this month………

Thanks for looking everyone, lots more to come, and happy modelling.

The engine looks really detailed, George (@chinesegeorge). It will look really nice after painting. Don't sell your stash yet. I am sure you have a lot more kits in your future. I turn 75 in about 6 months, and I still plan to build all of the kits in my stash. I look forward to many more models from you. :o)

George (@chinesegeorge) , don't give up now! You are at the best age for this hobby. You have time (very basic) since you are obviously retired, you have experience and of course you have your fans. It would be unfair for everyone to stop now.

And a small tip : Take a look at my construction of this particular kit for little tricks from time to time .But in general , its an easy kit . What you mainly need is to follow the instructions very carefully and pay attention to the fit of the pieces to each other, they are very tight .

That looks like a really interesting kit, George @chinesegeorge
    Great instructions.
To me the age of 75 sounds like the perfect age to model.

Thanks for all your kind comments, everyone, @johnb, Spiros @fiveten, @gblair, @faraomike, @eb801. George, I don’t have a stash, one promise I made to myself when I re-entered this hobby after my move to China. I’m always planning the next kit, though, maybe a Beemax 1/20 Brabham BT52, or an Italeri 1/12 McLaren MP2/C, to go with this one, we’ll see.

Anyway on with building the first part, the engine. Here are the parts required:

As @faraomike says, follow the instructions and you should be alright. Parts fit is very accurate as long you take care to clean up the sprue feeds very little cement is required, and some parts are held together with screws. After assembly, and a coat of semi-gloss black it looks like this:

The clutch unit is painted Titanium Gold, but will be completely hidden when the transmission is added. The Honda lettering is a decal. Talking of decals, or transfers as I prefer to call them, you get lots in the kit, mainly carbon fibre and kevlar representations:

Meng do not include the tobacco sponsor’s markings so I bought TABU’s set as well.

I thought I’d try some different cement:

Mmmmm, smells good, now where’s the gin and tonic. I need something refreshing as we’re in a heat wave at the moment, the temperature is 34C in the afternoon as I write this.

Thanks everyone, lots more to come, happy modelling.

Good start, my friend @chinesegeorge! Those are a lot of decals/transfers. Not sure why the tobacco logos are not provided (non smoking policy?), but they should have been, as this has to do with historical accuracy.

P.S. You look great with the limoncello cement 🙂

Looking good, George (@chinesegeorge). It really is weird that the sponsor decals were left out. I'm not sure I have seen that before. I'm interested to see how the decals for the carbon fiber and kevlar look after they are applied.
