Today, the smallest chains I could find arrived

It may be the right choice, so dryfit followed
1. loosely on top
1. could work with some sort of jig and a bit of distance.
These are way too large. I shall have to find some smaller ones.

Anyone know where to source some really small ones?

Thanks gents. @johnb, indeed some at 0.3 mm would be a lot closer. The ones I bought were advertised as being 0,5 mm, but they are closer to 2 mm if the size is the outside of the individual link
1. roughly 2 mm as far as I can see
I have asked the importer if he has some smaller ones, if not I shall dig the web!

Things are moving along, Erik (@airbum). You might try hobby shops or online sites that deal with 1/700 and 1/350 ships. Check out their anchor chain. You will find some that will serve.

Cab.

The front end got some attention today.

And having assembled the engine and such, I dryfitted the lot.
1. LqS in some places
1. Cut of some parts to be replaced by photoetched details later on.
A few bits of PE went into the build today, trying to add a bit of interest to the cab.

I still haven’t sourced the chains, but did some surfin today for anchor chains as suggested by George B, and may have located some useable parts in Brexitistan. They will probably end up costing the same as a silver necklace at a local jewelry store, so that might be something to try, as suggested by George W.

I got a few boxes of the new 1/48 range from MiniArt

and their 200L drums are a bit fatter than the Tamiya ones
Direct comparison reveals they are fatter
1. Tamiya

2. MiniArt
but sadly the same length

However, they have some nice lids with different writing on them

no LW drums though. Oh well, you can’t have it all.

I quickly threw four of them together to check them on the truck
1. A bit of a large gap in the middle.

2. Space behind is OK
1. enough to make them rest right
They are a lot better as they are fatter, and the empty space behind four drums is just right for the picture I have of such a truck. In order to make it easier to roll them in the correct position I added a little weight to their lowest part. The opening is on top of the opposite half.

I am not entirely happy with the distance sideways, and may have to lengthen a set of drums. Tune in later to check the decision on how to proceed. For now, I assemble a bunch, just for the fun of it.
