This particular aircraft operated off the USS Enterprise, and is photographed on the deck with flames creeping up upon it from a nearby Kamikaze hit. The aircraft did survive the near scorching and was seen in operations after.

Well I finally got something completed. 1/48 Eduard F6F Hellcat with Eduard Brassin wheels and painted with Model Master paints.
This Hellcat was flown by Texas pilot Arthur "Ray" Hawkins of VF-31 on the USS Cabot in September, 1944. I added an Obscureco cowl, Quickboost engine, and Squadron canopy. The pilot figure was bashed together from my parts box...head, torso, leg[...]
Spent this morning out at the CAF Museum in Camarillo with David P. and Chris McCampbell, son and grandson of Navy Ace of Aces Dave McCampbell. The CAF guys gave us a really nice tour, and even cranked up that loverly R-2800.

Started the build in October last year and then I got the "whooping-cough".
Inflamation of my ears, lost my voice and making sounds like a Pit Bull on steroids.... couldn't build because of the severe cough.
