    Some great research, George @gblair
I agree, the upper color is far off.

Thanks, John (@johnb). Whoever came up with the formula for the top color really missed the mark. The two colors I plan to use are very dark, so I will need to come up with some faded colors so the detail is visible.

I decided to lighten the color of the vertical surfaces (Navy Blue 5N) a bit so that there would be some difference between that and the dark deck color. I think what I am going to do on mine is use some post shading to bring out the detail. Not going to be easy.

Hi Carl (@clipper): I think we have both been going through the same thought process. If I use the actual colors, the detail will disappear in a blob of incredibly dark paint. How much to lighten the mix is the question. More to follow.

We spend Sundays with our daughter and her husband playing board games. And of course there is plenty of time to play with our granddaughter. Those of you who spend time playing with a 4 year old know that you need a nap when you get home. So, not much done today. I realized I had spent so much time focused on the front of the ship that I totally missed the diagonal structure at the back end of the troop compartment. I cut out the pieces and added them to the structure. Tomorrow I will putty them and sand them. At the same time I should be able to get some work done on the forward superstructure. Still trying to figure out how much to lighten the camo colors. Cheers.

Family gatherings are the best thing to do, George @gblair
Modelling will wait. Glad you found the diagonal structure at this stage, still easy to clean up right now.

Hi, John (@johnb): Yes, family first, then modeling. It is weird how you can get focused on one particular thing and totally overlook something else. The omission should be fixed later today.

I was chomping at the bit to try some paint, so I got the first couple of levels of the bridge completed. I came up with a mix using Tamiya paint for the vertical surfaces of the ship. The actual color is very dark, so I was trying to come up with a compromise color that was light enough to show detail, yet still convey the darkness of the camo. I will go back and look at the completed piece tomorrow to see if it is too dark. Cheers.

Great that you fabricated the triangular structure, my friend @gblair! Good painting plan!
Yes, family first, then everything else.

Thanks, John (@j-healy) and Spiros (@fiveten). The danger of a conversion like this is that it is easy to miss something that needs to be added or changed.

I wanted to try out my two improvised paint colors on the completed part of the bridge structure. I first painted the vertical surfaces, let them dry, then masked them. Masking was not terribly fun, but it does produce clean edges. I then sprayed the horizontal surfaces and removed the tape. The colors are very near each other in tone, which is what the actual colors were like, but perhaps not so good for models. I plan to let everything sit overnight, and then I will take a good look tomorrow.

Here are the homemade formulas I used:
Vertical Surfaces: Tamiya Field Gray + Tamiya Flat White 2:1
Horizontal Surfaces: Tamiya Sea Blue + Tamiya Flat White + a small amount of Flat Blue 2:1:?
