Steinheilper joined the Luftwaffe in 1936 and flew Me 109's during the battle of France and through the Battle of Britain.
A fascinating look at the Battle of Britain from the german point of view.
Steinhilper was a staffel mate of Adolph Galland and gives an unflattering portrait of Galland.
A excellent book one of my favorites!

    Thanks David@dirtylittlefokker and Louis@lgardner.

We were bought up in the tradition that Fighter Command fought under tremendous and continuous strain - and I am sure that is true, but after reading this life was at least as bad for the average staffel pilot.

Great insight into Luftwaffe training and life in prewar Germany also.
