Finally (after only 54 years) got to see "The One That Got Away," the story of Franz Von Werra.. One of those English "true WW2 tales" movies of the 50s. Must have been Hardy Kruger's first international production (as Von Werra). If you don't remember him, remember the German model airplane designer who saved the day in "Flight of the Phoenix"? Hardy Kruger. The movie is really good, they went to all kinds of effort to cover technical things in small detail. They even made a very accurate Bf-109 replica for him to crash in in the opening scene, complete even to the right markings for his particular airplane, had his proper adjutant's markings, Gruppe marking for JG3, had his proper number of victories on the fin, not the rudder, all just right...

    And then...

When the airplane came to a stop, he pushed the canopy open TO THE LEFT. (109nutz will get this immediately)

Everything else was really spot on. I definitely recommend it, shown in letterbox and all. The fact it was on means you should be able to get it on DVD at the TCM Store.
