I am guessing you use 1mm TIG wire as it is straight and no curves, or something else John.?

The more I see this approach to rigging, the more I like it. I don't do biplanes often, but when I do, the rigging is always a challenge and I am definitely open to other approaches for this particular task.

Ian, 0.008 IN. stainless steel wire. Yes it is straight and comes shipped in plastic tubes, 30IN long. I purchased a lifetime supply of it from a Florida company called Small Parts that I believe is now defunct. I’m pretty sure Albion Alloys in the U.K. makes a metric equivalent.

Hi Carl. It’s simple and durable. I’ve also used EZLine but really prefer this method for the aforementioned reasons. I don’t try to replicate turnbuckles in this scale because they usually look overscale and quiet frankly I don’t have the eyesight or skills to do them reasonably well.

    Hi John (@j-healy):
I am getting close to starting my D.VII, and I have been worried about how to rig it. This will be my first biplane, and I chose the D.VII because it really has very little rigging. I had planned to use EZ Line, but this really looks like the way to go. Thanks for posting the info.

Hi, George. While the SS wire is my preferred method, EZline does have its uses. I use it for antennas and sometimes on complicated exposed control cables. This Airfix Tiger Moth was completely rigged with EZline, including the control cables. It was a lot easier to use on those control runs and I felt it looked lighter for the rigging wires on such a small plane. Good luck on the Fokker! Looking forward to seeing it take shape.

    John
You’re doing some wonderful work here. The more I look at your kits and see how nice they look I get super motivated to get busy with my 1/32 scale versions of the same aircraft.

Wow. I’m especially impressed with your rigging on the Siemens Schuckert D-III. The Fokker will be a lot easier for sure.

That’s a nice looking Tiger Moth as well.

Yes, Ian. 8 Squadron, RAAF hack in Malaya, 1941. You can see a photo of it crushed in a hangar collapse on the ADF Serials website. It fits my Southeast Asia collection well.
